Job Description:
Job Introduction
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate, proactive, and credible individual to work within a project to tackle violence and knife crime among young people in Leicestershire.
Based within Euston Street Police Custody Suite and Leicester Royal Infirmary, and run by Turning Point, the project will intervene and engage with young people who come into hospital with injuries caused by knife crime or other related violence. You will engage with these vulnerable young people at this key opportunity to help make a difference and support them to move away from violence towards safer, healthier, more productive lives. You must be able to show empathy and forge a connection with people who are at their lowest ebb, then back it up with the ability to create strong, trusting relationships that support people to access the help they need. You will provide mentoring beyond the young person’s hospital stay, linking them into other agencies for long-term support.
Role Responsibility
The role is based at Euston Street Police Custody Suite and Leicester Royal Infirmary, with potential to work across other UHL sites. You will also run outreach, meeting young people after hospital discharge anywhere in Leicestershire County, Leicester City, and Rutland County. Willingness and flexibility to travel across the county are essential. The project will have a presence in hospitals from 9 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week. Shift work and the ability to work weekends and flexible hours are essential.
If you are level-headed, a good listener, compassionate, patient, a great communicator, hardworking, resilient, dedicated, and able to handle crises, and if you have the energy and commitment to support people effectively, we want to hear from you. We especially welcome applicants with previous involvement with the criminal justice system or lived experience relevant to the challenges faced by these young people, as they can act as credible role models.
A driving license and car access are desirable, but flexibility to travel is essential.
The Ideal Candidate
* Relationship building and engaging/working with children and young people

* Collaborative team working skills
* Ability to adapt and remain resilient in a changing environment
* Ability to deliver against goals, targets, and outcomes
* Highly effective communication skills
* A passion for supporting young people to achieve goals
