The Role

Glasgow City (South) Permanent Band 6 Speech and Language Therapy Post (1.0 WTE, 36 hours). This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 to join a well‑established, enthusiastic team of SLTs. The successful candidate will be based in a community team of SLTs and CSWs who are well supported by the SLT Leadership Team and may be required to work across services within Glasgow City.

The post holder will work closely with children and their families and with colleagues within Specialist Children’s Services, the Neurodevelopmental Team, Paediatrics, Health Visiting, Education and Social Work to promote understanding of communication differences. A willingness to undertake Eating, Drinking and Swallowing training would be advantageous. The principles of realistic medicine underpin team thinking and compassionate care is at the heart of everything the team delivers.

You should hold an appropriate ordinary / honours degree in Speech and Language Pathology or equivalent diploma and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

* Location based in the Gorbals Health and Care Centre
* Permanent Contract
* Full‑time position (36 hours per week)
* Shift pattern Monday to Friday


Key Responsibilities

* Assess, diagnose and provide therapy as appropriate to children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties, including the planning and delivery of specialised therapy programmes tailored to suit the needs of individuals, including complex cases.
* Manage and prioritise own caseload as an autonomous practitioner, analysing client risk and need. Caseload allocation and monitoring will be directed by the relevant SLT Team Leader and/or SLT Manager.
* Engage effectively in clinical supervision, peer review, operational management and Care Aims arrangements and processes that are critical to the effective delivery of SLT services.
* Where appropriate and required, review referrals in conjunction with SLT Team Leader/SLT Manager within the locality team, making decisions regarding referral of cases to other agencies as appropriate (e.g., CAMHS, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Educational Psychology).
* Evaluate programmes of therapy and progress patient care using evidence‑based practice through the service towards discharge.
* Make decisions regarding discharge of clients from the service.
* Maintain accurate client records and contemporaneous notes, ensuring client confidentiality and adherence to the Data Protection Act, and provide accurate and timely written and verbal reports.
* Work collaboratively with education staff, families and medical staff in order jointly to devise and implement individual education plans (IEPs)/goals and to ensure effective multi‑professional working.


Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job

* Appropriate Ordinary/Honours degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapeutics.
* Certificate to Practice as a Speech and Language Therapist awarded by the RCSLT.
* Continuing registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Knowledge and clinical experience with a range of paediatric SLT cases, e.g., Autism, Learning Disability, Attachment issues.
* Knowledge of mental health issues and conditions in children and young people.
* Understanding of wider service issues, connections, priorities, mental health services and legislation.
* Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in partnership with others.
* Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal.
* Prioritisation skills; ability to prioritise resources within the service area in consultation with line manager.
* Understanding and awareness of national and local policies and procedures relevant to health, social services and education.
* Understanding and awareness of a range of appropriate therapeutic tools (relevant to the service area) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* High level of reflective practice skills.
* Drivers License
