Head of Nursing Services - Shipston Home Nursing

Shipston Home Nursing is a small but dedicated Hospice at Home charity committed to providing compassionate, high-quality palliative and end‑of‑life care to people in their own homes. Our mission is to ensure every individual receives dignity, comfort and choice at the end of life.

We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Head of Nursing Services (Registered Manager) to lead our clinical team and ensure excellence in care delivery, compliance and governance.


Key Responsibilities

* Clinical Leadership & Service Management
o Provide professional leadership and operational management for all clinical staff.
o Ensure delivery of safe, high‑quality, person‑centred palliative and end‑of‑life care.
o Develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures for nursing and care delivery.
o Respond to the needs of patients, families and the community.
* Regulatory & Governance Responsibilities
o Fulfil the statutory duties of CQC Registered Manager.
o Lead on safeguarding, quality assurance, audits, risk management, infection control and incident investigation processes.
* Strategic Leadership & Service Development
o Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to shape and implement the charity's clinical strategy.
o Identify and lead opportunities for service development, partnership working and innovation.
* Team Management & Workforce Development
o Line manage the nursing and care teams, promoting a positive, compassionate and inclusive culture.
o Oversee recruitment, training, induction and professional development of all clinical staff.
* Partnership & Community Engagement
o Build and maintain effective relationships with local healthcare providers, GPs, hospices, community nursing teams and commissioners.
o Represent the charity in professional forums and multi‑agency meetings.


Qualifications and Experience

* Essential Criteria
o Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
o Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development (CPD).
o Significant post‑registration experience in nursing with substantial exposure to palliative and/or community‑based care.
o Proven experience in managing and leading a clinical or multidisciplinary team.
o Experience in service development, quality improvement or redesign.
o Demonstrable understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance and audit processes.
o Experience working within a CQC‑regulated service and understanding of regulatory frameworks.
o Experience collaborating with external partners, commissioners and other healthcare providers.
o In‑depth knowledge of palliative and end‑of‑life care principles, standards and best practice.
o Strong understanding of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and CQC Fundamental Standards.
o Awareness of safeguarding legislation and responsibilities (adults and children).
o Understanding of risk management, incident reporting and learning from complaints or feedback.
o Knowledge of national strategies, frameworks and guidance relevant to end‑of‑life care.
o Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in healthcare and team management.
o Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
o Proficiency in electronic care records, Microsoft Office and relevant clinical systems.
* Desirable Criteria
o Relevant management or leadership qualification (e.g. Level 5/7 in Health & Social Care Management, ILM).
o Postgraduate qualification or specialist training in palliative care, end‑of‑life care or community nursing.
o Teaching, mentoring or clinical supervision qualification.
o Experience as a CQC Registered Manager or in a deputy/regulatory role.
o Experience in managing budgets and clinical resources.
o Experience of working in or alongside the charitable or voluntary sector.


Additional Requirements

* Enhanced DBS clearance (Adult Workforce).
* Ability to travel across the local area as required.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.


Salary and Benefits

£54,561 – £59,884 per year (pro‑rata, permanent). Flexible working. The role is based at Suite 7B, 50 Stratford Road, Shipston on Stour, CV36 4BA.
