The Role & Key Responsibilities

An extremely rare and exciting opportunity has arisen with the recently created Sussex Police Road Safety Team (RST)

As the newly appointed Camera & Ticket Process Team Supervisor you will be heading an ever growing, driven and friendly team focussed on reducing deaths and injuries (KSI’s) on the roads of Sussex.

This vital role will work collaboratively with the Road Safety Operations Manager’s and the Safety Camera Team Manager to monitor and balance a variety of work streams, prioritising the demands within the team.

The successful candidate will have a proven record in excellent leadership and management skills and be a role model for the dedicated specialist team to provide effective and efficient processing of road safety offences.

You will work with the Road Safety Operations Managers and Safety Camera Team Manager to monitor and balance volumes of work to ensure that as many offences are detected and processed as possible, giving full consideration to national guidelines and local policy and procedures, delivering a fair and balanced disposal of duties.

Line manage a dedicated unit to provide an effective administrative system processing road safety offences and public reports related to antisocial driving; taking responsibility for quality assurance and decision making process for offence disposal.

Supervise the development and provision of management information and statistics in relation to SPRST business to track the performance of and demand on the force and to aid the Command Team to make effective decisions in relation to budgets, deployment of staff, future workload and risks.

Manage and implement efficient and effective back office IT and administration processes and systems to deal with the processing of high volume work and appropriate recording of data ensuring that legislation and national guidance is followed. Be the point of contact for bespoke systems and where appropriate take the role of systems administrator.

Responsible for ensuring the unit complies with legal requirements in respect of data retention and the protection and management of information, making sure that force policy is adhered to and where necessary local procedures are in place within the unit.

Support the Road Safety Operations Managers in their role as point of contact for the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme.

Liaise with Case Directors and Police Prosecutors to address legislative and policy matters regarding the prosecution of offenders to ensure teams are working to current legislation in the most consistent and efficient way designed to ensure appropriate convictions at court.

Proactively seek information from other Forces and partnerships and the Nationals Police Chiefs’ Council to improve efficiency, improve performance and reduce demand, benchmarking with other forces where necessary and ensuring procedures remain up to date and are robust to withstand any challenge.

Support and manage unit change with a focus on appropriate staffing, processes to optimise workloads.

Skills & Experience

Experience of developing and delivering business planning improvements and information, preferably within a performance management framework.

Experience of developing, implementing and reviewing procedures and systems to ensure risks are identified and assessed, working practices are safe and compliant with best practice and up to date with modern business.

Experience of managing, leading, motivating and influencing a team.

Significant customer focused experience dealing with the public through various channels, managing expectations and creating solutions to significant service delivery problems

Experience of applying project management principles and practices, including the ability to monitor budgets, set timescales and review effectiveness of service delivery.

Strong problem solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, plan solutions and make sound pragmatic decisions which will have a direct impact on the service.

Excellent communication skills with ability to influence actions by others including staff from partner agencies.

Excellent research skills to enable the analysis and interpretation of varied and complex technical information to produce effective business strategies and identify innovative solutions over the long term.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Experience in the application of road safety activities.

Experience of management in a customer focused environment.
