This highly specialist post will be based in the Central Child Development Team (CDT) at Mile-End School in Aberdeen, but will also involve some travel across various in-patient and out-patient settings throughout central Aberdeen and occasional travel to other bases across Grampian, including the Royal Aberdeen Childrens Hospital (RACH). The post holder will use highly developed clinical skills, and an in-depth theoretical knowledge base, to lead the physiotherapy team at Central CDT and will be involved in the assessment and treatment of children of all ages with a wide variety of conditions including neurological, complex needs, neuromuscular, rheumatology, orthopaedic, post-surgical, developmental, respiratory and MSK. A particular role for the successful candidate will be as our service’s neuromuscular physiotherapy specialist. This involves joining the Scottish Muscle Network, participating in national data collection, including through the North Star Project, using standardised assessment tools at designated intervals. Therefore, a clear interest in improving outcomes for children and young people with neuromuscular conditions, including SMA and DMD, is a key component of the role. Support will be provided to enable the successful candidate to gain the competences required. The majority of the community caseload comprises children and young people living in central Aberdeen, and so a small amount of driving is a requirement of the job within the area, particularly to Orchard Brae special school and other schools in the area. In addition to this advertised role, the CDT physiotherapy team at Mile-End currently comprises a specialist paediatric physiotherapist and therapy support worker and the service CPIPS and postural management lead. They work very closely with the other members of the CDT, including other AHPs, paediatricians and team secretary. Support will be given by your experienced peers across other teams and direct support from the physiotherapy lead, through close team working, formal and informal supervision in the context of a multi-disciplinary approach. The post-holder will support physiotherapy staff within their team and across CCH, to deliver evidence based practice and innovation to improve the quality of the patient’s therapeutic experience and care outcomes. Previous extensive experience in working with children and young people within paediatric physiotherapy roles is essential. As RACH is a teaching hospital and has a wide range of specialist services, some covering the whole of the North of Scotland, we offer excellent opportunities for personal and professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the respiratory on call rota with occasional weekend working. Job-sharing may be considered.
