Use your passion for music to change lives.

The Role:

At Hampshire Music Service (HMS), we believe music has the power to transform, inspire, and connect. As the lead partner in the Hampshire Music Education Hub, we deliver high-quality music education to over 25,000 pupils every year, supported by a team of 160 dedicated teachers.

We are seeking a Visiting Music Teacher with experience in SEND delivery to join our team. This is more than a teaching role, it’s an opportunity to make a profound difference to some of Hampshire’s most vulnerable children and young people. Through music, you’ll create moments of joy, build confidence, and support wellbeing, delivering specialist provision in SEND schools and settings, Alternative Provision, and secure homes.

Reporting to the Strategic Lead for Inclusion and ultimately the Head of Service, you will design and deliver bespoke music programmes tailored to individual needs, working closely with schools, alternative provisions, and partner agencies. Your role will be central to growing this vital area of work, championing Hampshire County Council’s priorities for inclusion and access to education.

Ready to make music matter? Apply today and help us bring the transformative power of music to every child who needs it most.

What you’ll do:

1. Teach in schools and colleges as directed on the timetable and in accordance with HMS guidelines.
2. Maintain and develop effective relationships with the schools and settings on the timetable in order to develop their confidence in the quality of provision, and promoting the highest levels of participation and achievement, leading to securing continued and increased purchase of Hampshire Music Service provision.
3. Participate in the Hampshire Music Service programme of professional development to maintain a high-level professional knowledge of current thought and practice in music education, including expertise in SEND and trauma-informed practice.
4. Deliver high-quality, inclusive music education in a range of schools and settings including alternative provisions and secure settings, adapting approaches to meet complex needs.
5. Design and implement bespoke programmes that support engagement, wellbeing, and holistic development for pupils, including those with SEND and those in vulnerable circumstances linking with existing goals and intended outcomes in their schools and settings.
6. Work collaboratively with school leaders, care staff, and multi-agency teams to ensure music provision complements wider educational and holistic outcomes.
7. Instrumental and vocal teachers will provide an annual written report on the progress of each instrumental and vocal pupil, as required by each school on the timetable, aligning with the schools’ own reporting schedule. Class teachers and those working in Alternative provision will contribute to assessment, recording and reporting schemes as appropriate to each school on the timetable.
8. Encourage and support the development of all ensemble provision in Hampshire schools, and through Hampshire’s Area and County ensemble network.
9. Direct or assist with an Area or County ensemble if so required.
10. Contribute, when required, to area and cluster music events, and to workshops and performing events, to promote the work of HMS.
11. Attend and participate in staff meetings as and when required.
12. All teachers will carry out the necessary administration associated with their teaching duties, using directed time in accordance with Standard Teachers’ Pay and Conditions
13. Ensure full compliance with Hampshire guidance and regulations in all matters of safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for an experienced music educator with a degree or equivalent experience, skilled in engaging and inspiring children and young people, including those with SEND and complex needs. You’ll have a strong understanding of adaptive teaching and trauma-informed practice, creativity to explore diverse musical genres, and excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with multi-agency teams. The role requires flexibility, travel, and a commitment to empowering learners through innovative approaches to music education.

Why join us?

14. Be part of a nationally recognised centre of excellence in music education.
15. Work in a supportive, inclusive, and creative environment.
16. Make a lasting impact on the lives of young musicians.
17. Opportunities for professional development and collaboration.

No two days are the same! Alongside varied teaching roles, you’ll have the chance to:

18. Lead and support ensembles and choirs
19. Contribute to world music projects, musical theatre productions, and summer activities
20. Inspire learners through creative workshops and events
