Becoming a Registered Building Inspector

We will consider individuals in the early stages of working towards RBI application and support you with the necessary requirements to become a Registered Building Inspector (Class 1, 2, 3) with the NHBC.

NHBC provides dedicated professional support for the Building Safety Regulator framework, including funding and training.

* Please note this opportunity requires a minimum of Class 2A-F RBI Registration.

What you’ll be doing:

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and surveyors, assessing Building Control and warranty applications for residential and mixed-use schemes.

Your responsibilities include evaluating Building Control compliance, negotiating with developers and builders, coordinating inspections, issuing certificates, and supporting other inspectors and managers.

While primarily based at home, you will frequently visit sites within your geographical area and occasionally visit our offices, including Milton Keynes.

Key elements of the Building/Senior Surveyor role include:

* Assessing Building Control and warranty applications
* Negotiating with developers and builders to ensure compliance
* Coordinating inspections, issuing certificates, and resolving certification issues
* Supporting inspectors with expert advice and reviewing progress

NHBC offers comprehensive support for the Building Safety Regulator framework, including training, guidance, and funding.

What we are looking for:

* In-depth knowledge of Building Regulations, building technology, and technical training
* Experience with structural defects, claims, engineering, NHBC Standards, and site inspections is advantageous
* Relevant experience in building/construction, especially in housing and commercial sectors
* Understanding of building pathology
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Proactive, self-motivated, and eager to develop your role
* Experience in Building Control
* A full driving license is required

Education and Qualifications:

* Working towards or holding chartered membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., MCIOB, CABE)
* Construction-related qualifications such as City and Guilds, HNC, HND, NVQ, or equivalent
