Radiology Secretary – part-time 30 hours per week, Tuesday to Friday, at Weston General Hospital, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date for applications is 19 June 2026.
Responsibilities
* Plan Radiologists rotas.
* Show a caring and professional approach towards patients, relatives and carers during telephone conversations.
* Collate Radiologists time sheets and additional hour forms, ensuring accurate records are kept.
* Participate in audit and improvement of the teams quality work.
* Train new staff within the team, ensuring adherence to departmental protocols.
* Assist and answer queries from band 2 clerical officers as a senior member of the team.
* Takes formal minutes for departmental meetings, organising agendas and sharing agreed actions.
* Maintain patient records pertaining to imaging examinations.
* Ensure imaging identification and patient documentation are accurate and that computer progression is timely.
* Identify training needs and contribute to the departmental education programme.
* Deal with enquiries from patients where a resolution cannot be negotiated; transfer to line manager.
* Work independently, prioritising own workload.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Ability to communicate at all levels, requiring tact and diplomacy.
* Knowledge of office procedures.
* Ability to see a task through from beginning to end with meticulous attention to detail.
* Ability to exercise judgement and take responsibility for actions.
* Previous NHS experience.
* Experience of using a Radiology Information System (CRIS) / Picture Archive Communications System (PACS).
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
Skills and Abilities
* Good keyboard skills.
* Effective and polite manner when dealing with enquiries over the telephone.
* Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients relatives and carers.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines within a stressful environment while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
* Working knowledge of radiology policies and procedures.
* Ability to prioritise own workload and work on own initiative.
* Flexible in tasks and hours worked.
* Helpful and patient-focused.
* Open to change.
Qualifications and Training
* Educated to GCSE, Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.
* Business Administration Level 3 NVQ or equivalent experience.
* Typing qualification – RSA 3 or equivalent.
