Offer description

For September 2025, Cheltenham College Preparatory School seeks to appoint a Resident Graduate Tutor for a fixed period of one year.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate who is considering a career in teaching, the education sector, or is looking to gain valuable experience before starting their PGCE.

Graduate Tutors are accommodated on site and will relish the opportunity of immersing themselves in the day-to-day running of a thriving boarding school.

As well as providing classroom support, Graduate Tutors offer support in sporting activities during the school day and assist with pastoral duties in the boarding house in the evening. While it is not essential, an interest in Art and/or Design Technology would be helpful.

Hours: This will be a term-time position (34 weeks) with an average of 50 hours per week to be worked as agreed with the Deputy Head (Operations) and the Head of Boarding.

Salary: The current salary, based on minimum wage for age for April 2024, is £21,795.00 per annum. It is a requirement of the role that you will reside in school accommodation and an accommodation charge, currently set at £69.93 per week, will apply.

Salary note: In line with government changes, it is anticipated that the salary will increase to £23,262.37 by the start date of September 2025 when the minimum wage will have increased. The accommodation charge is also anticipated to increase to £74.62 per week.

Benefits: Graduate Tutors can get all of their meals on site during term time, as well as complimentary membership to Cheltenham College’s gyms and swimming pool.

The Prep School is situated on the same campus as Cheltenham College in a beautiful setting with its own sports fields, lake, and stunning views of Leckhampton Hill.

Closing date for applications: Sunday, 2 February 2025, with initial video-call interviews planned for shortly after.

If you would like to discuss the post informally, please contact Jack Avery, (Boarding Houseparent).

Cheltenham College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its recruitment and selection of job applicants and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from suitably qualified individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, and marriage and civil partnerships. We encourage all candidates to ensure that the College is aware of your particular requirements should you be invited to interview.
