About the role
The purpose of the role is: To lead the environment & sustainability teams within the Enabling and Earthworks team and providing sustainability and environmental leadership, co-ordination, support and advice on all aspects of sustainability and the environment. This also includes ensuring that the CWA meets all legal and company standards and help deliver a culture of continual improvement whilst ensuring contractual and regulatory requirements are delivered.
Though this role will be focussed on the SZC project, there will be expectations for reach back into the parent company and to ensure alignment to corporate strategy and lessons learnt.
What you'll be doing
* Support implementation of the E&S strategy for the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), reporting monthly to the Delivery Leadership Team.
* Provide E&S leadership, guidance, and support across all project levels, including directors, managers, engineers, staff, and subcontractors.
* Manage, mentor, and develop the E&S team, ensuring resources align with project needs.
* Ensure delivery of environmental and sustainability commitments within CWA scope.
* Oversee risk management, stakeholder consultation, and regulatory compliance.
* Produce E&S reports and use data, audits, and assessments to drive improvements.
* Foster strong relationships with stakeholders and contribute to continuous improvement.
* Promote EDF, SZC, and CWA values and uphold company standards and policies.
* Ensure compliance with regulations, DCO, and business management systems.
* Support teams in meeting contractual and compliance obligations.
* Lead on incident investigations, lessons learned, and knowledge sharing.
* Promote E&S initiatives, conduct site inspections, and support team training and development.
Who we're looking for
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
Essential
* Proven experience in the Civils/Utilities industry in an environmental and/or sustainability role
* Proven experience of leading a team
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to operate in a range of environments.
* Able to demonstrate the ability to positively influence environment and sustainability within projects
* Excellent organisational skills
* Experience in implementing an Integrated Management System
Desirable
* Degree in relevant field
* MS Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point to a high standard
* Cost estimation and commercial awareness
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to operate in a range of environments.
