Our client, a small commercial bank, is seeking to hire a First Line Risk & Control Officer to ensure effective management of risks and controls. While risk is currently managed by the Second Line Risk Manager, the bank aims to further develop its Risk & Control framework to gain better insights into risks, Important Business Services, and control quality.

The Risk & Control Officer will work with First Line teams to embed the risk management framework across the first line. The role involves understanding each team's purpose, identifying key risks and controls, and supporting the mitigation of control weaknesses to foster a strong risk culture.

Responsibilities include:

* Developing control testing to ensure comprehensive understanding of the control landscape and addressing weaknesses.
* Supporting teams in developing controls and processes to minimize exposure to risks by identifying failed internal processes and emerging risks.
* Understanding risk exposure and control deficiencies by building positive stakeholder relationships across the three lines of defence.
* Reporting risk and control deficiencies and managing mitigation actions.
* Maintaining operational resilience monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Creating management information for operational risk reporting, audits, and compliance requests.
* Providing cover for the Second Line Risk team during holidays or absences.

Candidate requirements:

* Experience in financial services or a regulated environment with knowledge of risk, controls, and compliance.
* Experience in risk management, incident analysis, risk reporting, and control testing.
* Understanding of industry risk regulations, standards, and practices, with a willingness to learn more.
* Curious, collaborative, and adept at asking incisive questions to identify problems and act swiftly.
* Excellent communication skills to facilitate discussions and influence stakeholders.
* Ability to manage multiple deadlines, resilient in evolving environments, and hands-on in execution.
* Self-starter, autonomous, and capable of prioritizing tasks.

The bank operates on a hybrid basis with two days in the office and three days from home.
