Specialist Physiotherapist in Stroke

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced band 6 Physiotherapist to join our outstanding Stroke team here at Salford Royal, part of the Northern Care alliance. You will have the opportunity to rotate between the Hyper-acute and Stroke rehabilitation in-patient services. You will work closely with MDT colleagues to enable the best possible outcomes for patients.

You will be well supported by the experienced band 7 physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team leads to provide Physiotherapy assessments & interventions, alongside supervising Band 5, therapy assistants and student members of the team.

As a valued member of the team you will be encouraged to be proactive in supporting the team leads with service development as well as contribute to local and national data collection and audit in return the team and the wider Physiotherapy department will support your professional development

You will work closely with other Greater Manchester Stroke teams and community colleagues to ensure a smooth transition from our hospital to other stroke rehab units and the wider community setting.

Contribution to weekend working and respiratory on-call is essential.


Main duties of the job

* To work within the In-Patient Stroke Physiotherapy Service clinical setting.
* To undertake advanced assessment and treatment of stroke patients, who may have complex and/or chronic presentations.
* To develop specialist treatment plans and provide the rehabilitative input indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
* Contribute to data collection for both local and national audits.
* To lead assessment, liaison, and decision-making processes for patients.
* To undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist stroke knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.
* To support the team lead and service manager in the planning, co-ordination, and evaluation of the MSK Physiotherapy Service on a day-to-day basis, and to cover for any other area with this specific caseload as necessary.
* Be able to deputise for the Band 7 in their absence and attend meetings as required.
* To be able to work across 7 days and contributing to weekend working and contribution to the respiratory on-call rota.
* To supervise and teach more junior members of the team and students on placement.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* oBSc / MSc Physiotherapy
* oPost Graduate training relevant to Stroke


Professional Registration

* HCPC member
* CSP Member
* ACPIN or other specialist interest group member


Knowledge & Training

* oSignificant post registration NHS experience at band 5 or 6 level working across a wide variety of clinical specialties including stroke.
* oMinimum of 2 years clinical experience in Stroke or associated neurological field
* oEvidence of wide clinical theoretical knowledge base and specialist knowledge in a neuro setting including Stroke
* oKnowledge of national Guidelines / Standards / pathways pertinent to the field of Stroke including SSNAP
* oEvidence of supervising other staff and students
* oEvidence of contribution to service improvement / development relevant to the post
* oCompletion of UK recognised Clinical Educators Course
* oEvidence of CPD in the field of Neuro and Stroke.
* oWorking knowledge of the NHS for minimum 2 years..


Skills and Ability

* oHighly developed communication skills especially within neurological settings.
* oExperience of working as part of an MDT.
* oHighly developed discharge planning skills in relation to Stroke survivors needs
* oFlexibility
* oGood organisational and time management skills
* oDemonstrate an awareness and understanding of supporting equality and valuing diversity within their work.
* oAbility to move and handle patients and patients limbs during therapy sessions
* oEvidence of dealing with conflict
