Training and Competence Manager

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 base + bonus + benefits
Milecross Financial is one of the leading financial advice firms in the UK, providing investment, pensions, mortgage and protection advice across multiple locations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. We a business going through considerable and exciting growth and are looking to appoint a new training and competence Manager as a result of the retirement of the current role-holder.
Purpose of the Role:
To lead the implementation of Openwork's Training & Competence (T&C) Scheme across the Milecross adviser base, ensuring advisers are competent, compliant, and fully supported in their adoption of Milecross sales and advice processes. Working across all adviser licenses building strong relationships and supporting Practice Supervisors, leads adviser onboarding, and ensures all advisers are aligned with regulatory expectations and business strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Adviser Training & Development
* Design, implement, and maintain an adviser training programme covering onboarding, CPD, soft skills, and technical knowledge
* Deliver and arrange regular workshops, webinars, and e-learning covering sales process, compliance updates, and client engagement
* Supervise a direct span of advisers based locally and nationally in line with Openworks T&C scheme and KPI's
* Develop deep knowledge of the existing adviser population, including knowledge gaps, behavioural styles, and training needs
* Help embed and reinforce the Milecross sales process, including business submissions and ongoing servicing
* Provide bespoke training to support changes to Milecross advice standards or operational processes
* Train and develop other supervisers within span to a high level of competence
2. Regulatory Embedding
* Work closely with Sales Process and T&C to translate regulatory changes into practical adviser guidance
* Ensure Consumer Duty principles are embedded in advice delivery, documentation, and review processes
* Lead training on vulnerable clients, file quality, and advice suitability
3. Competency & T&C Scheme Support
* Support the firm's Training & Competence scheme, including supervision tracking, adviser status updates, and audit preparation
* Maintain CPD logs, ensure required plans are tracked and reported
* Liaise with compliance monitoring team to align T&C outputs with risk-based supervision
4. Adviser Onboarding
* Lead onboarding training for new advisers, ensuring they understand path to competence, systems, advice processes, and firm culture
* Partner with Operations to ensure advisers are set up correctly in systems.
* Liase with Openwork recruitment to ensure smooth integration of new advisers
5. MI & Reporting
* Complete all supervisory activity within required timescales and too a high standard
* Ensure all supervisory activity within span is completed to a high standard
* Maintain dashboards/reporting on training attendance, competency status, flagged file issues, and CPD
* Report monthly to senior management on adviser KPI's, changes is risk ratings and regulatory issues
Skills & Experience:
* Experience in adviser training, compliance supervision, or T&C management within financial services
* Deep understanding of FCA requirements, especially Consumer Duty and T&C
* Strong communicator, facilitator, and coaching skills
* Level 4 diploma qualified with experience of mortgage, protection and wealth advice
* Strong familiarity with IT systems
