Join to apply for the Scientist role at National Physical Laboratory (NPL)

Put simply, we set the standards by which everything is measured. In doing so, the National Physical Laboratory is helping to combat issues on a global scale such as climate change, curing diseases and the development of cutting‑edge communications technology. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.

About the Role

Research sits at the very core of our business. This is your chance to make an impact on our ground‑breaking work as you apply your established knowledge and solutions to a range of technical activities.

* Spot potential commercial opportunities and help raise our profile when possible.
* Share learnings and mentor junior members.
* Keep technical knowledge up‑to‑speed with the latest advances.
* Take responsibility for completing work to the highest standards, on time and within budget.

About You

The role requires at least a degree in engineering, physics or a science‑related field.

* Interest and preferably knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas:
o Rydberg quantum sensing, communications and signal processing

* Enjoy problem solving and can demonstrate critical thinking, assessing the pros and cons of your approach.

At NPL we learn from each other, respect each other and work together to do better.

We actively recruit citizens of all backgrounds, but the nature of our work in specific departments means that nationality, residency and security requirements can be more tightly defined than others. To work at NPL, you will need to obtain a minimum of BPSS security clearance.

All disabled candidates (as defined by the Equality Act 2010) who satisfy the minimum criteria for the role will be guaranteed an interview under the Disability Confident Scheme.

We are committed to the health and well‑being of our employees. Flexible working and social activities are embedded in our culture to create a positive work‑life balance, along with a broad range of rewards, benefits and recognition. Our values are at the heart of what we do, and they shape the way we interact, develop our people and celebrate success.
