 
        
        Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
As part of the Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and commitments to net zero carbon.
Responsibilities
 * Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets.
 * Provide technical engineering leadership and support across the organisation.
 * Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
 * Hold a national incident response role and be available during normal and out‑of‑hours as required.
 * Collaborate with the MEICA Engineering Standards team across mechanical, electrical and control system activities.
Experience & Skills Required
 * Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
 * Good working knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
 * Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
 * Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
 * Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
 * Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role; we will allocate a base location near to your home. Some travel and overnights may be required. Appropriate training will be given.

Role Specific License and Professional Membership Requirements
 * UK driving licence.
 * Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and be registered as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
