Requests for unique and niche designs have increased during 2024 as T.50 customer deliveries have begun, boosting the car’s profile as the ultimate supercar for the road through media reviews and international promotional appearances. The division, with an independent structure and engineering team, was formed to meet these special requests now and in the future.
We are seeking a highly skilled EDS & Electrical CAD Engineer to join our Gordon Murray Special Vehicles engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing and developing electrical distribution systems, including CAD design, wiring harnesses, power management, and integration into automotive platforms. Responsibilities include creating robust electrical solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality electrical systems for our vehicles. Proficiency in CATIA Electrical and VeSys is essential, along with strong knowledge of power distribution and management in modern automotive applications.

Key Responsibilities
1. Wiring Harness Design & Development: Design and optimize wiring harnesses, power distribution systems, and electrical circuits for automotive applications. Utilize CATIA Electrical for 3D modelling of wiring layouts, connectors, and electrical components within the vehicle architecture. Create electrical schematics using VeSys and ensure proper integration with vehicle systems.
2. Power Management: Develop and integrate power management strategies for low and high-voltage (48 V) systems. Ensure proper power distribution while maintaining energy efficiency. Collaborate on battery management systems, inverters, and energy recovery systems.
3. Automotive Electrical Standards & Regulations: Apply standards (e.g., ISO 16750, ISO 11452) to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Ensure electrical systems meet reliability and durability standards.
4. Embedded Systems & Control Units: Design, integrate, and validate embedded electrical control systems, focusing on power electronics and communication systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet). Work with ECUs for proper operation and integration.
5. Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct testing and validation of electrical systems, including high-voltage components and signal integrity. Use simulation tools like VeSys to validate designs. Troubleshoot electrical issues in prototypes and vehicles.
6. Connector & Component Selection: Select durable, reliable automotive-grade connectors and components. Ensure compatibility and safety compliance.
7. Vehicle Integration & Prototyping: Integrate electrical systems into vehicle prototypes, ensuring functionality and environmental robustness. Validate under real-world conditions.
8. Collaboration & Project Management: Work with mechanical engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders. Support project planning and coordination to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Educational Background
* Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
Experience
* Minimum of 5 years in electrical systems design and development for automotive industry.
* Experience in power management for electric and hybrid vehicles.
* Proven experience with CATIA Electrical, including 3D wiring harness modelling.
* Expertise in automotive electrical components, wiring, and connectors using VeSys.
Technical Skills
* Proficiency in CAD software like CATIA Electrical, Siemens NX, or AutoCAD.
* Experience with VeSys or similar circuit design tools.
* Hands-on experience with harness and circuitry.
* Strong understanding of power electronics, battery management, and energy distribution.
* Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
* Familiarity with automotive electrical standards (ISO 16750, ISO 11452).
