Spectrum is recruiting a driven, ambitious nurse to lead our primary care team and drive forward clinical excellence across our healthcare service.

As Lead Nurse, you'll manage our skilled nursing team and provide effective clinical leadership on a wide range of issues. You'll also be passionate about patient care - with advanced nursing knowledge, an understanding of NICE guidelines and a desire to be involved with key decision-making.

We need a nurse who can be a role model and mentor for our staff, support them to deliver the highest standards of evidence-based care and demonstrate proactive, visible leadership. You'll need the confidence to build relationships with a wide range of NHS partners, stakeholders, Prison authorities and Community services, and to engage actively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.


Main duties of the job

* Working closely with our management team and key stakeholders, you will contribute to and deliver a comprehensive primary care health service.
* You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, assisting and supporting others in undertaking physical and/or health assessments, providing a range of health treatments/interventions for prisoners, and contributing to the wider continuous development of prison healthcare services.
* You will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of the Primary Care Team, ensuring that the delegation of work takes into account the roles, skills and competence of staff
* Support other senior managers in ensuring a high level of performance within the team is maintained, by participating in audits, Health and Justice Performance indicators, and NHS data collection activity.

Person Specification


Education and Training

* Registered General Nurse Level 1
* Evidence of ongoing CPD and delivery of evidence based care
* Independent Nurse /Supplementary/ NonMedical Prescriber qualification or willingness to undertake
* Appropriate management qualification of equivalent experience
* RCGP Cert 1/2 Primary Care/LTC qualification


Knowledge and Experience

* Significant experience of working in a complex environment with multidisciplinary professionals demonstrating effective communication and leadership skills
* Be able to demonstrate experience of clinical governance used to improve patient care
* Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner
* Experience of leading a team and effectively using policy and procedures to improve clinical and professional standards
* Experience of multi-disciplinary/multi agency working
* Understanding and application of confidentiality
* Experience of working within Health & Justice
* Experience of working in primary care/substance misuse/acute care
* Understanding of local and national key documents and their impact on health care delivery in a prison setting
* Research experience


Skills and Abilities

* Able to communicate efficiently and effectively.
* Demonstrate a high level of personal and professional autonomy and an understanding of professional accountability
* Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships
* Keyboard skills - computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft office
* Able to maintain contemporaneous clinical records following clinical activities

* Leads by example, self motivated and works on own initiative by taking responsibility for own actions
* Non-judgemental attitude treating others with courtesy and respect at all times

£22.99 an hourper hour, plus working time directive pay
