A welcoming school is looking for a caring and reliable 1:1 Support Assistant to start immediately to work closely with a pupil who needs extra guidance to navigate the school day. If you’re calm, patient, and great at building trust, this could be a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference.
About the role
You’ll be supporting one child throughout the day, helping them feel settled, confident, and ready to learn. Every day will be a mix of reassurance, encouragement, and gentle structure.
You will:
* Provide consistent 1:1 support during lessons, transitions, and break times
* Help the pupil manage emotions, follow routines, and stay engaged
* Use clear strategies agreed with the teacher and SENCO
* Encourage social skills, independence, and positive communication
* Respond calmly to challenging moments and help the pupil regulate
* Work closely with staff to ensure the pupil’s needs are fully understood
This is a role where steady relationships and small steps forward matter.
What the school offers
* A supportive and friendly team
* A structured environment where pupils’ needs are prioritised
* Helpful guidance from experienced teachers and SEND leaders
* Opportunities for additional training and professional growth
What we’re looking for
* Experience supporting children or young people, ideally within SEND or SEMH
* A warm, patient approach and the ability to stay calm under pressure
* Confidence using behaviour strategies and clear communication
* Someone who genuinely enjoys helping pupils overcome barriers
