Overview

The Acute Care Service is fully developed and includes the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), male and female inpatient wards, and a Home Treatment Team (HTT) for Gwynedd and Anglesey. The post covers the Hergest Male Inpatient Ward, providing a substantive consultant-led acute care service for the two counties.


Main duties of the job

* Direct clinical responsibility as Responsible Clinician (RC) for all female inpatients on the 17-bedded Aneurin Ward, Hergest Unit (excluding functional OPMH patients).
* Clinical management for all female inpatients on Aneurin Ward, including RC duties related to the Mental Health Act during the inpatient stay.
* Attend the daily Acute Care Meeting (held every morning, typically 15–30 minutes) to discuss patient flow, delayed discharges, and potential discharges.
* Manage complex cases in collaboration with HTT and Community CMHTs.
* Provide clinical leadership within the Acute Care setting.
* Develop care plans and treatment formulations, and provide guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.

Person specification

Qualifications

* Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable:

* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent (Royal College of Psychiatrists).
* Welsh AC Approval.

Eligibility

* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* CCT or equivalent (equivalence confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
* Approved Clinician status (or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment).
* Approved under S12 (or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment).

Desirable criteria

* Good standing with GMC regarding warnings/conditions on practice.

Clinical Skills

* Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry (Essential).

Desirable criteria

* Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of community psychiatric practice.

Teaching and Training

* Evidence of delivering postgraduate and multidisciplinary teaching (Essential).

Desirable criteria

* Teaching medical students.

Research/Audit

* Ability to initiate and undertake original work; experience with an audit project (Essential).

Desirable criteria

* Evidence of research in community mental health care.

Motivation

* Commitment and enthusiasm to provide specialist adult mental health services (Essential).

Welsh Language Requirements

* Ability to communicate in Welsh (Essential).
