We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our nursing team. We are a happy, established clinical team looking for the right Healthcare Assistant to join us; someone who is compassionate and has a desire to help patients on a day-to-day basis.

We are seeking an NVQ Level 3 qualified (or equivalent) Healthcare Assistant to join our team. Previous experience with SystmOne in a GP Practice is desirable. We offer a salary depending on experience and NHS pension. This is a part-time position, with 16 hours per week. You will receive training and support to develop your professional career with us.

We require an experienced HCA who can perform all routine tasks and functions of this role. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team delivering safe, high-quality care.

General Practice experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is organized, self-motivated, a good communicator, and adaptable.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills. They will work alongside our team of experienced nurses.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

* Undertaking new patient health checks
* Supporting the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes
* Carrying out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
* Facilitating routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* Undertaking wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required
* Supporting the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
* Carrying out BMI checks
* Acting as a chaperone
* Performing venepuncture
* Administering vaccinations/injections
* Carrying out ECGs
* Ensuring specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
* Ensuring all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared
* Monitoring fridges daily
* Ensuring clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with IPC policy
* Delivering opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
* Participating in practice audits as directed
* Participating in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
* Supporting and participating in shared learning within the organization


About us

We are a small, friendly GP Practice with around 5,300 patients. Our clinical team includes 3 GP Partners, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and a team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants. We teach Medical Students and are a training Practice for GP Registrars.


Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

Supporting the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes

Induction

We provide a comprehensive induction program, with ongoing support.

Learning and Development

Training is vital to ensure staff have the necessary skills and knowledge. Mandatory training will be provided, and staff are expected to assess their learning needs, undertake development, and share knowledge with the team.

The post holder will mentor team members, disseminate learning, and educate patients, carers, and colleagues.

Collaborative Working

Recognizing the importance of teamwork, staff should manage workloads effectively, support each other, and communicate clearly. Delegation should be appropriate and safe, with success measures agreed upon.

Managing Information

Staff should use technology and software for care management, ensuring accurate coding and record-keeping, and adhere to policies and protocols.

Security

All personnel are responsible for maintaining security, reporting suspicious activity, and safeguarding access controls.

Professional Conduct

Staff should dress appropriately and uphold professional standards.

Qualifications

* Good general education including passes at GCSE or equivalent in English and maths
* NVQ Level 3


Experience
