This team leadership role is broadly equivalent to an NHS Band 8a position in terms of scope, responsibility and clinical leadership. You’ll be joining a highly skilled multidisciplinary team committed to clinical excellence, innovation and an exceptional patient experience. The Role As Lead Oncology / Haematology Nurse, you will be the clinical lead for the SACT service, with responsibility for the safe, effective and high-quality delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy. You will provide visible and credible leadership across the unit, overseeing daily operations, governance and workforce development, while ensuring adherence to national frameworks and regulatory standards. This is a pivotal leadership role within the multidisciplinary team, focused on delivering clinical excellence, optimising the patient experience and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong nursing leadership and a commitment to fostering a positive team culture that supports continuous improvement in patient care and operational efficiency. What You’ll Do: Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery Provide expert, visible leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based SACT services. Act as the clinical lead for the SACT unit, overseeing day-to-day operational delivery and service resilience. Support the multidisciplinary team to deliver personalised, high-quality patient care. Patient Safety & Clinical Governance Maintain oversight of patient safety, clinical governance and regulatory compliance. Lead and manage incidents, clinical audits and risk assessments in line with internal standards and national frameworks. Drive continuous improvement through Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives, utilising learning from incidents and patient feedback. Team Leadership & Workforce Development Lead, support and develop a high-performing team of senior SACT nurses. Promote a strong team culture built on professionalism, compassion, learning and accountability. Support recruitment, onboarding, competency development and ongoing professional development. Service Innovation & Patient Experience Work collaboratively with central nursing teams, pharmacy, referrers, clinical and operational colleagues. Contribute to service innovation, pathway optimisation and service growth. Champion an exceptional, patient-centred experience throughout the treatment pathway. What You’ll Have Experience & Skills Significant post-registration experience in Oncology and/or Haematology (minimum 5 years). Proven experience delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT). Senior clinical and leadership experience (minimum 3 years). Strong understanding of clinical governance, audit, incident reporting and risk management. A clear commitment to promoting a culture of safety, compassion and professionalism. Qualifications & Knowledge Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration. UKONS SACT Passport (or willingness to work towards). Advanced Life Support (ALS) (or willingness to work towards). Post-registration qualification in Oncology and/or Haematology. Leadership and management qualification, or equivalent senior leadership experience. Evidence of ongoing CPD and commitment to professional development. Other Requirements Flexibility to work outside of normal hours where required. Occasional travel to other GenesisCare centres.
