About this job
The purpose of this post is to provide comprehensive support within a research environment. The assistant will perform a variety of clerical and research duties, making a direct and positive contribution to the organisation of work.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with all other departments within the hospital (wards, medical outpatient departments, medical records, etc.) regarding all aspects of patient care such as appointments and investigations.
- Assist the Research Nurse with patients’ study visits and clinical trial procedures, including venepuncture, vital signs, placement of Holter ECG monitoring equipment and ECG recording (after appropriate training).
- Operate computer systems to enter and retrieve data (Trust electronic patient records and Microsoft Excel, etc.).
- Maintain screening logs for clinical trials.
- Collect data using a variety of methods (face‑to‑face contacts, telephone, email, etc.).
- Identify suitable patients for clinical trials by screening medical records, wards, and clinics (after appropriate training).
- Handle telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, medical staff, and clinical trial personnel, recording messages where appropriate.
- Retrieve medical records, investigation reports, etc.
- Perform general clerical duties including filing, photocopying, faxing, and correspondence.
- Attend training courses as required.
- Comply with ICH GCP and promote, monitor and comply with all aspects of Health and Safety.
- Undertake any other duties deemed relevant to the post and grade.
