Electrician
Bedfordshire. Interviews in December – January start.
Build Recruitment provides specialist recruitment services to leading organisations in the built environment, specialising in Housing, Construction, Facilities Management, Property, Surveying, Health & Safety and Sales. We are currently working with a Housing Association who are looking for Electricians.
Hours are rota based 08:00‑17:00 Monday‑Friday with occasional weekend and evening shifts. Operatives are expected to have a week on an evening shift (11 am‑8 pm) and a week of split days (half a day Wednesday & half a day Saturday).
Responsibilities
* Responsive Repairs: attend day‑to‑day electrical faults in occupied properties – no power, tripping circuits, broken sockets, faulty lights, immersion issues, extractor fans, etc.
* Planned Electrical Works: carry out scheduled maintenance such as emergency light testing, smoke/heat detector checks, and fixed‑wire inspections across BPHA properties.
* Minor Installation Works: add new sockets, replace light fittings, upgrade extractor fans, install new circuits, and perform small rewires where required.
* Heating & Controls: work on electrical components of heating systems – time clocks, stats, boiler wiring centres, element changes and basic diagnostics.
* Social Housing Safety Compliance: ensure all work is carried out to BS 7671 standards, keeping properties safe and meeting BPHA compliance responsibilities.
* Occupied‑Home Working: communicate clearly with tenants, work cleanly, respect the home and minimise disruption.
* Emergency Call‑Outs (if required): respond to urgent issues such as no lights/no power, alarms or unsafe electrics needing immediate attention.

Qualifications
* Experience as a maintenance operative, multi‑skilled operative, multi‑trade operative, multi‑trader, carpenter, joiner, or UPVC specialist.
* Electrical installations experience in social housing, housing associations, domestic properties, council properties or MOD.
