Start Date: Immediate or next academic term

School Overview

This Primary and Nursery School in Aylestone is recognised for its inclusive, nurturing environment and strong pastoral support. Serving a diverse Leicester community, the school places a high priority on emotional wellbeing, early intervention, and behavioural support alongside academic development.

The leadership team understands that early behavioural challenges can affect long-term development if not addressed. Through a combination of behaviour mentoring, SEND provision, and pastoral systems, the school supports pupils with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, and other social or emotional challenges.

With increasing pupil need across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is seeking a skilled Behaviour Mentor to join the pastoral team.

Role Purpose

The Behaviour Mentor will support pupils experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction. You will provide direct support in classrooms, small group sessions, and during unstructured periods such as playtimes or lunchtimes.

You will work collaboratively with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and parents to ensure consistent behaviour strategies and interventions are applied across the school.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to pupils in Nursery, Reception, and KS1

* Lead small group interventions focused on social skills, emotional literacy, and self-regulation

* Support children during classroom activities, transitions, and unstructured periods

* Assist pupils in managing emotions and behaviour during playtimes and lunchtimes

* Implement and monitor individual behaviour support plans

* Employ restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed approaches

* Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils

* Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and intervention outcomes

* Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency support discussions

* Build strong, professional relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies

* Work collaboratively with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams

* Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently

* Promote a culture of inclusion, empathy, and mutual respect

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient. You will understand that challenging behaviour is a form of communication and respond consistently and empathetically.

You should demonstrate:

* Experience in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings

* Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and attachment-informed practice

* Confidence delivering behaviour interventions and monitoring outcomes

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills

* Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving

* Flexibility and adaptability in supporting pupils and staff

Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work are desirable.

Training and Development

The school provides structured induction, supervision, and access to CPD in SEMH, SEND, behaviour management, and early intervention. Behaviour Mentors have clear pathways to teaching, SEN support, or pastoral leadership.

What the School Offers

* Inclusive and collaborative working environment

* Experienced leadership and pastoral teams

* Specialist CPD and training opportunities

* A meaningful role with measurable impact on pupils’ lives

* Opportunities for long-term employment and career progression
