🏗 Tier 1 Main Contractor – Pre-Construction Team
A leading Tier 1 contractor is looking to appoint an Estimator to strengthen their Plymouth-based pre-construction team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded contractor with a strong pipeline of work across the Southwest, delivering high-quality projects across multiple sectors.
As an Estimator, you will play a key role in the pre-construction phase, producing accurate and competitive cost plans while working closely with internal teams, consultants, and supply chain partners to secure and convert tender opportunities.
Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing accurate cost plans and estimates through the design development stages up to target price.
* Pricing selected trades from first principles using agreed outputs.
* Producing detailed project take-offs to SMM7 / NRM2 level where required.
* Collaborating with the pre-construction, design, and commercial teams to secure and convert tenders.
* Advising clients and design teams on cost, risk, and affordability.
* Identifying opportunities for value engineering and alternative design solutions.
* Managing and evaluating supply chain quotations and building strong relationships with subcontractors.
* Supporting change control processes across RIBA design stages.
* Preparing comprehensive cost handover documentation for the delivery team, including tender analysis and bills of quantities.
* Reviewing supply chain performance with operational teams.
What you’ll need to succeed,
* Experience delivering two-stage tenders and pricing multiple work packages
* Strong understanding of modern construction methods
* Ability to control cost, programme, and quality against project targets
* Experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications
* Strong numerical and analytical skills
* Valid CSCS card
Desirable
* HNC / NVQ Level 4 or similar construction qualification
* Degree in a construction-related discipline
* Experience using Conquest estimating software or similar
* Experience completing quantity take-offs to SMM7 level
* Working towards MCIOB or RICS accreditation
