Role Summary

The Tissue Viability Clinical Matron provides senior clinical and operational leadership for Tissue Viability services across the Trust. The post holder will act as an expert resource in complex wound care and pressure ulcer prevention, lead and manage the specialist nursing team, ensure high standards of evidence-based practice, and support service development, governance, education and quality improvement across acute and community settings. This is a Trust Wide role to commence on 1st April 6.

As Tissue Viability Clinical Matron, you will provide visible, expert leadership for Tissue Viability services across the Trust, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe and effective care for patients with complex wounds. You will hold clinical and managerial responsibility for the service, leading a team of specialist nurses and working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across acute, community and external partner organisations.

The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on clinical expertise. You will lead on pressure ulcer prevention, incident investigation and data validation, provide assurance and performance reporting, and contribute to Trust-wide governance, policy development and service improvement. Acting as the clinical lead for Tissue Viability, you will represent the service at key committees and forums, influence practice through education and evidence-based guidance, and support the development of staff across the organisation.

You will also play a key role in managing external contracts, supporting education and research activity, and driving innovation to improve patient outcomes. This is a senior, autonomous role requiring strong leadership, advanced clinical knowledge and the ability to influence change across a complex healthcare system.

This is a Trust wide role that will be based in either Exeter or Barnstaple.
