Applied Scientist/Data Scientist | Transportation Modelling | Urban Mobility | Python | Geospatial Digital Twins | Agent-Based Simulation | Logistics | Public & Road Transport | Defence SR2 is partnering with a pioneer in simulation and decision intelligence, to help expand their mission-critical transport modelling capabilities. We’re looking for an Applied Scientist/Data Scientist to join their Cities team, shaping large-scale urban mobility systems for government clients. This role sits at the interface of scientific modelling, geospatial data, and complex transport networks. You'll be building the models that help decision-makers explore infrastructure, mobility, and environmental outcomes across sprawling urban landscapes. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement scientific models of transport systems — road, public, shared, and micro-mobility Conduct literature reviews, conceptual modelling, and end-to-end implementation in Python Translate technical requirements into robust, defensible models and decision tools Deliver production-grade model tooling through code and notebooks Integrate third-party and geospatial data into synthetic environments and UI/UX pipelines Analyse and present simulation outputs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders Champion model explainability, scientific rigour, and clear data storytelling Collaborate with government clients to understand their needs and shape next-gen decision tools Experience: Strong experience in transport modelling — urban mobility, logistics, national infrastructure Proficient in Python, with a background in scientific or engineering modelling Experience with geospatial data and agent-based modelling is highly desirable Full lifecycle modelling experience — from research to implementation and validation Comfortable working in interdisciplinary teams and communicating across domains Degree in a STEM subject with strong mathematical content (PhD desirable but not essential) The Details: Rate: £600-700p/d inside IR35 6 month rolling contract (2 year project) Location: 2 days per week on-site in central London Work on cutting-edge simulation products shaping the future of national infrastructure Join a multidisciplinary team at the forefront of AI, data, and systems design If you're an applied scientist ready to model the future of mobility and defence — apply now for immediate consideration.
