The role of the Pharmacy Technician is to work within the cancer services team under the line management of the specialist pharmacy technician and accountable pharmacist to manage the day-to-day provision of an efficient and patient focussed aseptic service to our patients and key stakeholders.
You will oversee the effective organisation and prioritisation of workflow within the aseptic unit, working accurately and efficiently to agreed standards and departmental procedures, ensuring work targets are met. As part of this you will supervise the team, providing technical expertise to resolve problems and escalating when necessary to the specialist pharmacy technician.
As part of this role, you will interact with the pharmaceutical quality system (PQS), ensuring that the policies and procedures are embedded in daily activities, that team members are aware of and trained in the SOPs and that corrective action is identified, documented and implemented.
Following an in‑house comprehensive training programme including competency assessments you will work towards undertaking the preparation, manufacture, in‑process checking and accuracy checking of aseptic products including but not limited to Parenteral Nutrition (PN) and Systemic Anti‑Cancer Treatments (SACT).
* You will work alongside the other senior pharmacy technicians or pharmacy technicians within the aseptic services team ensuring that the day-to-day operational activities are performed by competent, trained personnel and are documented to demonstrate compliance with applicable standards and standard operating procedures, including environmental monitoring.
* You will effectively coordinate and participate in all aspects of the aseptic service, working accurately, efficiently and to agreed standards.
* When required you will deputise for the other senior/specialist pharmacy technicians.
* You will actively participate in the technical aspects of the role in relation to the dispensing of, assembly and manufacture of aseptic preparations as well as the accuracy‑checking technician role (accuracy checking of outsourced, ready‑to‑use items).
* By contributing ideas or supporting other colleagues you will assist in the forward planning and development of the service provision offered by the aseptic services team.
* As directed by the specialist pharmacy technician, you will participate in the delivery of the internal audit schedule and assist the Aseptic Services Management Team with the requirements for the external audit if required.
* You and the team are responsible for minimising financial and product waste within the aseptic unit within the remit of your role and for identifying opportunities for potential improvement.
