MAU has a position for an 11 month secondment for a Ward Manager to cover maternity leave. This is a fabulous opportunity for dynamic, innovative and compassionate nurse leaders.

This position is well suited to individuals looking to lead the way in the unit setting. You will lead the way in a thriving and supportive workplace, ensure high quality care is given to our patient group while working with a dedicated team of staff who are devoted to improve the quality of care and enhance patients experience.

You will have excellent communication skills and high clinical standards with a passion to make a difference for patients and staff alike.

You should have recent experience of working at a Senior Nurse level and be able to demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills in caring for acutely unwell patients.

Main duties of the job

You will have overall responsibility for the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relative and visitors who are cared for within your department or by your team.

To ensure the provision of excellent care with compassion, you will be responsible for:

1. Ensuring that the nursing team and care support team within their ward or department are adequately resourced and organised.
2. Ensuring the nursing team and care support team are adequately supported and developed to deliver excellent care with compassion in line with the Trust’s Values & Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework.
3. Leading and developing the nursing team and the support teams by being a visible and strong role model providing leadership and direction to the team, capitalising on research and development opportunities, providing clinical supervision and advice for staff and students in order to support them in reaching their full potential
4. Ensuring the productive operation of the department through the monitoring and maintenance of standards that create a safe, clean and organised environment and by using processes designed to increase the time nurses spend in therapeutic contact with patients

Safeguards people and promotes equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.

Overall responsibility for vacancy / talent management, ensuring all vacancies are recruited to in a timely manner and in line with the our recruitment and selection policy.

Responsible for workforce planning.

Where there are difficult to fill roles solutions are found to ensure the department has sustainable staffing structures at substantive spend, which may be achieved through different marketing solutions or different structural arrangements.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

5. Appropriate NMC Registration
6. Mentorship qualification
7. Post Registration Qualifications relevant to the role
8. Diploma or Degree in Nursing
9. Successful completion of/will to work towards a leadership and development programme (equivalent to the Internal Band 6 Leadership and Development programme).

Desirable criteria

10. Level 4 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

11. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice
12. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
13. Knowledge of ethical issues
14. Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs
15. Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs

Desirable criteria

16. Experience of managing a clinical area
17. Knowledge of the PDPR Process
18. Evidence of working at Band 7
19. Experience of budgetary management
