We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join us as cadet leaders at our Volunteer Police Cadet (VPC) unit in Spelthorne. If you can spare a few hours a month and want to help shape the future of young people in Surrey, this voluntary role could be perfect for you. As a leader, you’ll be part of something genuinely inspirational—whilst having some fun along the way!
This is a flexible voluntary role; most volunteering happens in the evenings or at weekends, and you can commit to as much or as little time as you’re able. Spelthorne Cadets meet every Thursday, during term time from 6pm till 8pm, at their base in Sunbury-on-Thames. If this is not convenient for you, please do look at the adverts for our other Surrey units.

The Role & Key Responsibilities
As a cadet leader, you will play a vital role in guiding and supporting young people, helping them grow in confidence, skills, and community spirit.
Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Acting as a positive role model for cadets
2. Supporting and mentoring young cadets during weekly sessions
3. Delivering sessions based on the VPC curriculum
4. Arranging guest speakers and visits to build awareness of emergency services and community organisations
5. Coordinating joint activities with other youth groups, charities, and partners
6. Supporting cadets in their volunteering efforts, including attending and supervising community events

Skills & Experience
As a valued cadet leader, you should be able to:
9. Inspire and motivate young people with confidence, positivity and enthusiasm
10. Build strong relationships with cadets, fellow leaders, and partner organisations
11. Volunteer flexibly as part of a supportive team
12. Stay up to date with the knowledge needed for the role—including completing all mandatory training within the specified timescales
We will provide all the training and guidance you need, but it would be beneficial if you have:
13. Prior experience of working with young people or volunteering in your community
14. A good understanding of safeguarding principles
15. Familiarity with policing or local community issues
16. Skills in delivering or developing training sessions
