Pain Clinic

We are currently seeking a motivated, polite, and well‑organised individual to join our friendly and busy Pain Clinic team at Calderdale Royal Hospital.

As a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker in pain clinic, you will play a key role in supporting patients throughout their pain management journey.

You’ll work closely with our nursing and administrative teams, providing both clinical and clerical support to ensure the smooth running of the clinic.

Pre Assessment Unit

* Completing investigations for patients undergoing elective surgery including Venepuncture, ECG recording and MRSA swabs
* Liasing with patients post assessment to ensure guidance is followed for surgery such as medication and lifestyle advice
* Completing update telephone assessments with patients and ensuring all required investigations are completed
* Supporting and working collaboratively with the MDT to ensure patients fitness for surgery
* Providing and supporting optimisation of patients undergoing elective surgery


Main duties of the job

* Retrieval of MRSA results from PAS WEB
* Take observations, bloods and ECG's and MRSA screening
* Telephone assessment of patients awaiting elective surgery and providing patients with their pre‑operative instructions.
* Telephone assessments of patients prior to their surgery date to ensure safety and fitness for surgery
* Maintain accurate patient electronic records
* Liaise with multidisciplinary team
* Check and prepare documentation for clinic attenders
* Maintain confidentiality at all times within the Trust’s Policy

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Take patients observations, height and weight

* Telephone assessment of patients awaiting surgery providing them with pre‑operative instructions.
* Telephone assessments of patients prior to their surgery date to ensure safety and fitness for surgery.

Take MRSA swabs and retrieve results ensuring compliancy of MRSA Trust Policy

* Take patients bloods and perform ECGs when required
* Obtain samples as required for testing.
* Liaise with multi-disciplinary team

* Participate in regular supervision.

Attend all mandatory training.

Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your Line Manager using the Trust Appraisal.

Person specification


QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

* English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
* Competence based level 3 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Care or Care Certificate Standard – demonstrating the 15/16 standard have been meet and signed by an employer
* Willingness to undertake any training or development relevant to the role
* Competent in cannulation /venepuncture/plaster training and specialist dressings
* Moving and Handling
* Infection Control
* Customer Care
* Competent / able to evidence the completion of Health Care Assistant core competencies
* ECG training and competency


KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

* Previous employment with a healthcare setting (18 months)
* Insight into the roles of responsibilities of the post
* Demonstrate a commitment to a caring profession
* Understand the importance of record keeping
* Literacy Skills
* IT Skills
* Experience of record keeping
* Experience in undertaking point of care testing
* Experience in application of basic dressing techniques

You may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
