The Opportunity
We're recruiting a Senior Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Designer to deliver high-quality, safe and cost-effective design solutions on Nuclear projects. You'll lead design activities, support project delivery, and mentor junior team members whilst ensuring compliance with company procedures and UK industry standards.

This is a senior technical design role for someone with proven C&I design experience. You'll be responsible for producing high-quality design deliverables, supporting the Chief C&I Engineer, and providing technical guidance to less experienced team members. Your expertise in loop diagrams, schematic design, 3D modelling and supporting documentation will be core to your responsibilities.
What You'll Be Doing
Design Delivery & Technical Leadership
1. Deliver safe, practical and economically viable C&I design solutions in line with company procedures and industry standards
2. Act as Senior Designer on assigned proposals, supporting the Chief C&I Engineer in design development
3. Produce high-quality design deliverables including loop diagrams, block cable diagrams, schematic diagrams and 3D models
4. Review and check design drawings in accordance with company procedures and quality standards
5. Ensure all design work is carried out with a strong focus on safety, operability and risk management
Documentation & Project Support
6. Prepare and manage supporting documentation including bills of materials (BOMs), cable schedules, design packs and material requisitions
7. Maintain accurate and complete design documentation
8. Support timely delivery of design packages to project teams
9. Contribute to design proposals and project bids
Team & People Management
10. Provide guidance, mentoring and technical support to junior and less experienced designers
11. Support team development and knowledge sharing
12. Contribute to continuous improvement in design processes and practices
13. Promote a safe working environment, ensuring all personnel are adequately briefed and trained
Collaboration & Compliance
14. Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure integrated design delivery
15. Liaise with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders
16. Ensure compliance with UK legislation, standards and best practices
17. Support quality assurance and design review processes
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
18. ONC / OND / HNC / HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
19. Minimum 4+ years' experience in a senior C&I design role
20. Proven track record delivering design across multiple projects
21. Strong understanding of UK legislation, standards and best practices for C&I systems
22. Proficient in CAD software - able to produce accurate technical drawings
23. Experience in 3D modelling - able to develop three-dimensional design solutions
24. Solid knowledge of design practices and installation requirements across relevant industries
25. Leadership capability - comfortable providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers
26. Attention to detail - accuracy essential in technical design and documentation
27. Safety-focused - approach work with safety, operability and risk management at the forefront
28. Strong communication skills - confident working across multi-disciplinary teams and with stakeholders
29. Highly motivated and self-directed - takes ownership of design workstreams
Desirable
30. AVEVA PDMS experience - preferred but not essential
31. Experience on large, complex projects - delivering across multiple concurrent workstreams
32. Knowledge of process industries - Nuclear or similar
33. BIM experience - familiarity with integrated design management
34. Proposal and bid support - experience contributing to design bids and project proposals
The Role in Practice
You'll work on a hybrid basis with a flexible arrangement to suit project needs. You'll be part of a design team supporting multiple projects, with responsibility for senior design deliverables and mentoring of less experienced team members.
This is hands-on technical work where your design judgment and experience matter. You'll be developing loop diagrams, 3D models and supporting design documentation. You'll also be supporting the Chief C&I Engineer and helping develop junior designers - so this is a role that combines individual technical delivery with some people leadership.
