Role and Location

As a Clean Water Process Engineer (Principal to Associate Director), you will join our Water Engineering teams located in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle or Glasgow. You will work within multidisciplinary project design teams to deliver the process engineering design content on water and water reuse projects in the UK and overseas. You will contribute to project design from feasibility and optioneering through to the production of detailed designs for procurement and construction, and review supplier proposals. You will provide technical input to the procurement process and support Project Managers in technical discussions with clients, collaborating with technology providers and vendors. You will also engage in safety reviews in line with project needs (e.g., HAZOP/HAZID/ENVID/SWIFT) and provide technical guidance and supervision to junior staff, ensuring integration of Process Engineering with broader engineering design objectives.


Responsibilities

* Produce process design deliverables such as optioneering studies, process calculations, mass balance models, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation drawings, sketches, basis of design reports, and related documentation to achieve optimal project solutions.
* Undertake outline or detailed process engineering design and attend site visits for data acquisition and to meet site operators.
* Provide technical input to procurement and support Project Managers in technical discussions with clients.
* Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects to meet time, cost and quality expectations and ensure integration of Process Engineering requirements.
* Engage with technology providers and vendors; participate in HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, SWIFT exercises as required.
* Provide technical guidance, coaching and supervision of junior staff.
* Contribute to proposals, define work scope, work schedules and budgets; liaise with clients to ensure their needs are met.


Qualifications

* A Chemical or Environmental Engineering degree or MSc.
* Professional registration as CEng (or working towards Chartership within 12 months).


Skills and Experience

* Significant experience delivering process engineering design for infrastructure projects, including leading process engineering on projects or major tasks.
* Experience in the municipal water industry.
* Ability to work largely unsupervised in preparing and reviewing process design package deliverables (technical specifications, calculations, reports, datasheets, schedules, process control philosophies, P&IDs, mass balances, procurement documentation).
* Experience delivering optioneering studies, feasibility, concept designs and/or detailed design for municipal clean water treatment, including: Clarification (bottom hooper), DAF, Rapid Gravity Filtration, Disinfection, Taste & Odour/Pesticides Removal, Chemical Dosing.
* Experience in a consultancy or engineering environment acting as Process Engineer.
* Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects.
* Proven ability to prepare high quality technical reports and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
* Effective verbal communication and client-facing presentation skills; ability to engage with senior colleagues, clients and subcontractors.
* Experience leading multi-disciplinary meetings and representing technical aspects to external clients.
* Ability to work accurately and flexibly, integrating with other disciplines while managing own/teams’ work to tight schedules and budgets.
* Willingness to travel and visit operational works and construction sites as required, and to assess process performance safely.
