Job overview
To take lead responsibility for day-to-day provision of the nutrition and dietetic service to the Gastroenterology & Hepatology wards providing expert dietetic advice on issues pertaining to gastroenterology and hepatology conditions. To lead on dietetic initiatives in these specialities within the hospital and provide outpatient gastroenterology & hepatology services. The post holder is involved in all nutrition and dietetic departmental activities and contributes to the delivery of a Trust wide dietetic service.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
· To provide dietetic advice and support to inpatients and outpatients under the care of the Gastroenterology and hepatology teams.
· To act as a clinical resource, providing specialist knowledge to members of the dietetic department on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Support.
· Provide an in-patient dietetic service and participate in multidisciplinary ward meetings and ward rounds as necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To provide dietetic advice and support to inpatients and outpatients under the care of the Gastroenterology and hepatology teams.
· To act as a clinical resource, providing specialist knowledge to members of the dietetic department on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Support.
· Provide an in-patient dietetic service and participate in multidisciplinary ward meetings and ward rounds as necessary.
· Undertake nutritional assessment, dietary review (where appropriate) and design patient centred nutrition care plans taking into consideration anthropometry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and medical history.
· To provide a source of expert knowledge and advice on nutrition in gastro-intestinal disease and complex hepatology conditions. Review patient’s nutritional status and adapt care plans accordingly.
· To support gastroenterology MDT inpatient management of eating disorder patients.
· Provide an outpatient service to gastroenterology & hepatology patients and attend gastroenterology & hepatology MDT meetings when required.

Person specification
Qualifications
* BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
* Professional registration (HCPC)
* Relevant validated BDA courses
* Proven evidence of recent CPD
* Completion of PENG Clinical Update course
* Registered for Diploma in advanced dietetic practice
* A teaching qualification or demonstrable experience of teaching groups
Knowledge
* Demonstrable experience in clinical dietetics within a large clinical setting, in particular gastroenterology
* Good working clinical proven knowledge of gastroenterology and nutritional support
* Training, supervisory and teaching demonstrable experience
* Demonstrable experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
* Demonstrable experience in audit, standard setting and guideline
* Demonstrable experience of patients undergoing liver transplant
* Demonstrable experience of patients with eating disorders.
* Able to work within a team
* Good organisational and time management/prioritisation skills
* Ability to supervise students and junior department staff
* Ability to lift feeding equipment / deliver feeding supplies to patients on wards
