Generic Specialist Practitioner – Clinical Nurse Specialist for Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) and Preparation of Patients for Elective Surgery (PREPS)

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality, patient‑centred care? We’re looking for motivated and forward‑thinking professionals to join our multidisciplinary team within Perioperative and Surgical Services across NHS Lanarkshire.

This is your chance to be part of a pioneering service that ensures patients are fully prepared for surgery through enhanced pathways including PREPS (Preoperative Preparation Services) and ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery). You’ll work collaboratively with a range of healthcare professionals to optimise patient outcomes and transform surgical care.

Qualifications / Requirements

* Registered Nurse or AHP with valid NMC / HCPC Registration
* Educated to Degree Level
* Post graduate qualification at a minimum of Level 10 (Hons) or working towards
* Expertise within speciality/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
* Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality/area of practice.
* Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality/area of practice
* Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.
* Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
* The post holder will possess excellent team‑working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
* Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Effective time management skills
* Working knowledge of basic information technology; including non‑medical prescribing when required within the specialism and legal framework.


Preferred / Additional Experience

* Evidence of professional development in surgical specialties, enhanced recovery and prehabilitation
* Extensive experience within a surgical speciality and familiar with pre and post of care of patients.
* Knowledge and understanding of surgical presentations and elective surgical procedures
* Car driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence
* Ability to work on own initiative to lead a service and deliver education and training to staff and patients
* Excellent communication skills and knowledge of computer systems
Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.


Contract & Location

* Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months
* Full time, 37 hours per week

Location: Surgical, Gynaecology and Critical Care Directorate within University Hospital Wishaw. Applicants who are shortlisted for interview may be considered for similar vacancies in alternative locations.
