Job Description

This position is open for our Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Epsom, Glasgow, London, Oxford, Peterborough, and Warrington/Manchester offices, but we can be flexible with location.

Do you have the ambition, enthusiasm, and technical capability to work with us as a senior or principal hydrogeologist within the water resources sector? We are looking for someone to lead projects in our groundwater resources team within our successful Water Management Consultancy business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced candidate looking to progress their career in a vital industry with an internationally renowned company.

Our highly respected Water Management Consultancy team has been at the forefront of managing the challenges of providing resilient and sustainable water supplies for the future. We undertake projects including groundwater resource evaluation, development and management, and environmental impact investigations. We are expanding our team to deliver a wider range of exciting projects for water companies, major water users, and regulators. You will play a key role in growing our business through winning and delivering work across our extensive client portfolio, enhancing our reputation for technical excellence.

As an experienced hydrogeologist, you will have delivered groundwater projects in the UK and/or internationally. You will work closely with our technical specialists based in Birmingham, Epsom, Oxford, and Peterborough. We have a friendly, approachable team known for delivering excellence to multiple clients.

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world's most respected design, engineering, and project management consultancies, with over 35,000 employees worldwide. We offer more than just a job—we offer an opportunity to make a difference and shape the world for future generations and the environment.

As part of our Environment practice, the Water Management Consultancy operates at the interface between people and the water environment, addressing water, habitats, and future change. We provide a diverse blend of skills across many technical areas, with a passionate, intelligent, digitally-minded, capable, and innovative team. We enjoy working collaboratively on projects that bring about real change and societal benefit. We are committed to developing our staff's careers through engaging and innovative projects.

Responsibilities:

Joining a well-established team, you will work with technical leads to win, deliver, and manage groundwater projects and develop trusted client relationships. You will uphold high standards, influence project development, lead on projects and bids, and define and deliver outputs for complex problem-solving projects. Collaboration and support within the team are vital, and you will mentor and support junior staff. You will also work broadly on projects related to water supply, strategic planning, resource optimization, and environmental assessment.

Requirements:

* A degree in science, engineering, or mathematics, with a postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology or a related field, likely chartered through a relevant professional body.
* Substantial experience as a hydrogeologist within consultancy, water companies, regulatory bodies, or academia, including water resources hydrogeology, hydrology, WINEP investigations, signal and pumping tests, borehole design, groundwater flooding, or water resource planning.
* Good understanding of UK hydrogeology and the environmental/regulatory framework of UK water management.
* Experience leading projects through all stages, from problem definition to analysis, interpretation, and recommendations, with an innovative approach encouraged.
* Highly motivated, proactive, with excellent numerical, analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills, and an eye for detail.
* Effective communication skills at all levels, suitable for collaborative work and building client relationships.
* Valid full UK driving license.

We also seek a groundwater modelling specialist to lead projects in this area, with similar experience requirements focused on groundwater modelling in the UK.

We support flexible working arrangements to accommodate individual needs and promote a diverse, inclusive workforce. Our benefits include a competitive salary, 25 days of leave plus bank holidays, options to buy or sell leave, and ongoing training and development opportunities.

This role may require security clearance, dependent on UKSV vetting processes, and candidates must have resided in the UK for at least five years.

We are committed to diversity and inclusion, welcoming applications from all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.
