Role overview
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will conduct laboratory-based research to support projects focused on detection techniques for multiple neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and other infectious diseases. The role contributes to studies assessing NTD burden in endemic countries and evaluating the impact of disease control strategies, including participation in epidemiological studies and sample collection for laboratory analysis.
Reporting to senior academic staff, the Fellow will perform key laboratory tasks such as serological analysis, DNA extraction, and PCR-based diagnostics, and will support data management, statistical analysis, and dissemination of findings.
Responsibilities by level
Level A
* Contribute to collaborative research projects, manage laboratory operations, maintain datasets, and assist with student supervision.
* Perform laboratory tasks including serological methods and molecular diagnostics as part of project work.
* Support data management and basic statistical analyses.
Level B
* Develop an independent research portfolio and lead project design.
* Contribute to competitive funding applications and mentor students and junior researchers.
* Continue to supervise and collaborate across disciplines with strong interpersonal skills.
Skills & Experience
Level A
* A PhD in biomedical sciences, epidemiology, public health, biostatistics or a related field.
* Experience in molecular and cell biology with infectious diseases, including qPCR, ELISAs, serological assays, and microscopy.
* Strong data and specimen management and ability to perform quantitative analysis with statistical software (e.g., SAS, Stata).
* Commitment to ongoing learning and keeping up to date with discipline developments.
* Experience writing and publishing peer-reviewed articles and/or reports for non-expert stakeholders.
* Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to work with diverse staff and students.
* Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team and across disciplines.
* Knowledge of infectious disease control programs; practical LMIC experience is desirable.
Level B
* Track record of significant involvement with the profession/industry.
* Demonstrated high-quality research outputs with leadership potential.
* Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
