Steppingstones Medical Practice are looking for a highly motivated applicant to join our friendly team.

We are looking for a someone to who is willing to work along side us and continue to provide excellent care for our patients.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated Salaried GP. The Practice prides itself on providing a supportive and safe environment for all staff. Therefore, the ability and willingness to supervise other's is essential, time will be allocated for this.


About us

Steppingstones Medical Practice is an established family medical practice in the heart of Dudley. We provide care to approximately 8500 patients.

The Practice consists of an experienced and approachable team, including five GPs, Two Practice Nurses, one Health Care Assistant and a large admin team.

We are a training practice that normally support two to three Registrars at a time.

Job Description

Job Title: Salaried GP

Accountable To: The Partnership

Sessions of Work: 4 sessions per week, Monday and Thursday.

JOB SUMMARY

The post-holder will support the practice to manage a busyand interesting clinical caseload. They will work as one of a team of practiceGPs, nurses and delivering general practice services to patients atSteppingstones Medical Practice.

Thepost-holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultationsand emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, on-call, visitingpatients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing withclinical queries, patient test results, patient medical reports andexaminations (e.g. Insurance Companies) on behalf of the Practice, referralletters NHS/private, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner

Making professionaldecisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referredfrom other health care workers within the organisation

Supervising and supporting trainee doctors.

Comply with the requirements of the practices General Medical Services (GMS)contract, Enhanced Services contracts and educational/training deliverycontracts.

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide high quality medical services to patients registered with the practice

Refer patients as appropriate and in accordance with local protocols andprocedures

Recording clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreedstandards

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated andundiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Manage long-term conditions in accordance with practice, local and nationalclinical guidelines

Undertake duties such as prescription signing, prescribing reviews, telephoneadvice and queries

Extended hours if required in accordance with the rota

Participate in the Duty Doctor rota which involves dealing with urgentappointments, home visits, telephone calls and urgent results

Undertake clinics, postnatal checks, child developmental checks as agreed orrequired

Prescribe generically and in accordance with the practice formulary/ICBformulary

Provide appropriate health promotion advice to all patients

Undertake a share of workflow management of incoming correspondence

Provide medical reports and letters that require clinical input

Ensure good clinical governance is part of patient care and other practiceactivities

Adhere to practice guidelines, policies, and procedures

Practice evidence-based medicine

Takeongoing responsibility for patients with difficult and complex problemsincluding consistent follow up

Thepost-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Non-clinical Responsibilities

Maintain clinical records (manual/electronic) in line with good practice and inaccordance with practice procedures including appropriate coding as agreed inthe practice

Maintain administrative records in relation to GMS contract, enhanced servicescontracts, and Long Term Conditions Framework and becoming LTC lead, includingcoding

Workas part of a team to ensure targets are met

Workin line with agreed practice procedures and protocols

Beavailable for informal contact with team members, especially other practice GPcolleagues

Attendand participate on a regular basis on in-house clinical, and educationalmeetings

Contribute to the practices clinical governance and quality activitiesincluding clinical audit

Maintain regular and consistent and professional attendance, punctuality,personal appearance and adherence to relevant Health and Safety guidelines

Training and Education

Prepare for and complete the annual external appraisal system, maintaining alicense to practice

Prepare for and complete the revalidation process

Undertake training that meets personal, statutory and mandatory and practicelearning needs including recording of learning, reflection, complaints etc.

Participate in and contribute to learning activities such as significant eventreviews, clinical audit, protected learning time, video analysis ofconsultations

Contribute to delivering teaching for doctors in training in the practice.

Supporting and developing our other clinical and non-clinical colleagues

Inthe course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us togather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respecttheir privacy and act appropriately

Inthe performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holdermay have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers,practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access toinformation relating to the practice as a business organisation. All suchinformation from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workersor the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons inaccordance with the practice policies and procedures relating toconfidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data

Health & Safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintainingtheir own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practiceHealth & Safety Policy, the practice Health & Safety Manual, and thepractice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include(but will not be limited to):

Ensuring job holders across the practice adhere to their individualresponsibilities for infection control and health and safety, using a system ofobservation, audit and check, hazard identification, questioning, reporting andrisk management

Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of health and safety and infection controlstatutory and best practice guidelines and ensure implementation across thebusiness

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practiceguidelines

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking suchactivities in a way that manages those risks across the business

Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills, and initiateand manage the training of others

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in atidy and safe way and free from hazards, and initiation of remedial /corrective action where needed

Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazardsand infection hazards immediately when recognised

Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas clean, identifying issuesand hazards / risks in relation to other work areas within the business, andassuming responsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanlinessacross the business in consultation (where appropriate) with other seniormanagers

Undertaking periodic infection control training

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered with GMC
* On GP performers list
* MB ChB MRCGP or equivalent
* Up to date full GP appraisal and evidence of ongoing CPD.
* Awareness of local and National guidelines regarding clinical management and prescribing. Able to take History and examination to ensure safe and appropriate diagnostic and management decisions, accompanied by understanding of own limitations.
* EMIS web trained
* Docman Trained
* Experience of managing complex cases.
