Senior Planning Officers (Development Management - Renewable Energy/NSIP and Area Teams We are seeking two experienced Senior Planning Officers to join our Development Management service at an exciting time for growth and change. Both roles sit within our Development Management teams and share a common job description and core responsibilities. However, each post will have an initial area of focus, reflecting service priorities and expertise. The Roles Senior Planning Officer - Renewable Energy and NSIP Focus (1 post) One role will have an initial focus on renewable energy development and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). This will include work associated with large-scale renewable energy proposals, projects within the TCPA regime, and other NSIPs and associated consenting processes. The role will also involve wider Development Management work as required. Senior Planning Officer - Area Team (1 post) The second role will be based within one of our general Development Management area teams, dealing with a varied caseload including complex applications, pre-application advice, appeals and committee work. Over time, both postholders will be expected to maintain flexibility and contribute across the service in line with operational need. Key Responsibilities (Both Roles) Initiate and negotiate action with developers, applicants, and other stakeholders on planning proposals (both pre-application and planning applications). Work with stakeholders to actively resolve complex and/or controversial issues and problems associated with your planning applications. Prepare written reports and recommendations to development management/planning committee, prepare appeal statements and act as a witness at informal hearings. Build and develop effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and provide information and advice to elected members, agents, applicants and the general public in writing, face to face and by telephone. About You With a degree (or equivalent) in Town Planning or a related discipline, you will be a Chartered Member of the RTPI (or will be working towards this within 12 months). You will have demonstrable experience in Development Management and be able to manage a number of complex problems at any one time, working across disciplines to achieve shared objectives. You will also need a full UK driving licence. Experience of renewable energy projects, infrastructure planning or NSIPs or experience of major applications and / or committee presentations is desirable.
