Overview
We are looking for a motivated individual to lead the development of a new pre-assessment service at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, joining the Freeman Hospital pre-assessment team based at the RVI. The post involves managing a band 6 pharmacy technician and aims to increase medicines reconciliation completed within 24 hours, identify potential efficiency and cost savings, reduce cancelled operations due to medicines, and improve post-surgery pharmaceutical care to enhance patient outcomes. You will work with many surgical specialties across the Trust with support from an experienced pharmacy team to review high risk patients and optimise medicines, improving patient safety. As a senior member of the pharmacy team, you will produce guidelines, undertake audits/research, and provide support and training to the pharmacy and multiprofessional teams.
Responsibilities
* Implement and deliver a coordinated, highly effective pharmacy service within pre-assessment and day of surgery settings.
* Provide peri-operative support to the pre-assessment unit.
* Develop clinical guidelines and conduct audits.
* Manage medicines reconciliation and discharge facilitation.
* Mentor/support junior pharmacists, technicians and students; act as a key contact for Pharmacy staff and as a specialist in your area of practice.
* Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service aligned with KPIs and clinical standards.
* Prioritise patient care using informed decision making and professional judgement in line with Trust initiatives.
* Offer ongoing clinical support to the multiprofessional team and contribute to practice in your working areas.
* Assist senior colleagues in addressing medication safety and clinical governance issues promptly.
Qualifications
Essential
* M Pharm (or equivalent) degree and pre-registration experience
* Registered Pharmacist (GPhC)
* Clinical Diploma
* Independent Prescriber
Knowledge & Experience
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
* Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge across drug use
* Experience with clinical audit and hospital pharmacy at a senior level
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent oral and written communication of specialist clinical information
* One-to-one communication, influencing and negotiating skills
* Basic computer skills
Desirable
* Clinical Masters
* Specialist knowledge of the clinical area or directorates involved
* Managerial experience and awareness of pre-registration tutor roles
