Job Title: Laboratory Assistant
Contract: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Monday to Friday
Location: Matrix Diagnostics, Waltham Abbey, EN9 3BZ
Salary: £23,915.01 per annum
As a Laboratory Assistant at Matrix Diagnostics, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of our laboratory, ensuring samples are accurately received, processed, stored and managed within defined turnaround times. You will be central to maintaining sample integrity and traceability, using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and following established procedures to support high‑quality diagnostic outcomes.
Working closely with the wider laboratory team, you will help uphold regulatory, quality and data protection standards while delivering a high level of internal and external customer care. From coordinating referral samples and managing non‑conforming submissions to maintaining laboratory equipment, stock levels and housekeeping standards, your contribution will directly support the reliability and effectiveness of our testing services.

Responsibilities
* Manage submissions (samples and supplies) with high accuracy, including temperature control, storage/disposal and maintenance of sample integrity.
* Keep accurate records of the above.
* Use the Laboratory Management System (LIMS) accurately.
* Handle B Sample processing, referral samples/coordinating timely transfers, managing deviating or non‑conforming samples with record keeping, sentinel and MRO logging, monitoring, tracking and uploads, DAMSP Certificate production and release.
* Scan, file and dispose of sensitive customer request forms in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
* Monitor and act upon correspondence via the laboratory shared mailbox, ensuring a timely response.
* Take stock to ensure uninterrupted supply of laboratory consumables, chemicals, reagents and in‑house standards.
* Place orders with recognised suppliers and, from time to time, help search for alternatives.
* Carry out maintenance and calibration checks on general laboratory equipment, ensuring correct operation including temperature monitoring.
* Maintain high levels of cleanliness and good housekeeping.
* Ensure work is performed in accordance with ISO 17025, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 requirements in testing and quality control.
* Raise non‑conformances, planned deviations, changes, risks and improvements; support investigation of non‑conforming work.
* Be familiar with and comply with all relevant health and safety procedures.
* Adhere to company policies and business systems manuals, and all policy, procedure, regulatory, customer and standard requirements relating to quality, information security and environmental management systems.
* Maintain impartiality, confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of information.
* Participate in team meetings and take an active interest in laboratory functions.
* Work with the team to drive continuous improvement.
* Assist with audits as required.
* Participate in annual appraisal and relevant training.
* Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
Requirements
* Science‑based A‑levels.
* Previous required, but desirable.
