About MDMS
MDMS is a trusted provider of school support and operational services across Greater Manchester. We work in close partnership with primary schools, academies, and education trusts to ensure safe, well-run, and nurturing school environments. Our midday teams play a vital role in the school day, supporting pupils during one of the most important — and energetic — parts of their routine.
We are currently recruiting Midday Meal Supervisors to work across primary schools within the Manchester City borough, supporting children during lunchtime and helping to create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where every child can relax, socialise, and enjoy their break.
The Role
As a Midday Meal Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing pupils during the lunchtime period, both in dining areas and playgrounds. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, value routine and structure, and want a role that fits around other commitments such as family life, study, or part-time work.
Lunchtime is a key part of the school day. It's a time when children develop social skills, independence, and confidence. Your presence ensures that this time is safe, well-managed, and enjoyable for everyone.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Supervising pupils while they eat their meals in the dining hall or classroom
* Encouraging good table manners, respectful behaviour, and positive social interaction
* Supporting younger pupils with tasks such as opening food packaging or carrying trays
* Monitoring food allergies and dietary requirements in line with school policies
* Managing pupil behaviour in a calm, fair, and consistent manner
* Overseeing safe movement of pupils between classrooms, dining areas, and playgrounds
* Supervising outdoor and indoor play activities during lunchtime
* Ensuring pupils remain safe at all times, intervening early to prevent accidents or conflict
* Administering basic first aid where required (training provided)
* Reporting any concerns relating to behaviour, welfare, or safeguarding to the appropriate staff member
* Supporting inclusive play and ensuring no child feels excluded or isolated
* Helping maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming lunchtime environment
Who We're Looking For
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Experience working with children is helpful but not essential, as full guidance and support will be provided. What matters most is your attitude, reliability, and willingness to support young people.
You may be a great fit if you are:
* Patient, approachable, and confident with children
* Calm under pressure and able to manage behaviour positively
* A clear communicator who can follow school procedures
* Reliable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility
* Able to work independently while also being part of a wider school team
* Passionate about child wellbeing and safety
* Physically able to remain active and supervise play during lunchtime
This role is particularly suited to parents, carers, retirees, teaching assistants looking for extra hours, or anyone seeking term-time employment.
