Responsibilities
Job Objectives And Responsibilities
* As a Chaplain working alongside the Safer Custody and Equalities Function, ensure compliance with contractual requirements, company policies, and HMPPS standards including all relevant Prison Service Instructions and Policy Frameworks.
* Deliver effective services across the prison, supporting the Managing Chaplain and Head of Safety and Equalities in creating a safe and rehabilitative environment.
* Be part of the Multi Faith and Belief Chaplaincy Team, ensuring accessibility to all prisoners and staff regardless of faith or belief.
* Provide pastoral care, organise and deliver worship and events, and assist with prisoner resettlement.
* Offer expert faith and belief advice and support the observance of religious holy days and festivals.
* Develop relationships with support and volunteer groups, plan workshops and meetings, and contribute to safeguarding and diversity initiatives.
* Deliver awareness programmes for prisoners and staff, work with Safer Custody on policies and procedures, and support prisoners through major life events regardless of faith or belief.
* Develop and maintain relationships with external faith/belief communities to aid resettlement and support the Managing Chaplain's contact strategy with outside faith/belief-based agencies.
* Support the Managing Chaplain in establishing standards, budgets, and People Plans, and help implement local and national policies for Chaplaincy services.
* Ensure health and safety compliance and help deliver actions from audits and reports.
* Required to work one day on the weekend.
Qualifications and Eligibility
Must Haves
* Signed the Church of England documentation on mutual flourishing (or Church in Wales equivalent).
* Demonstrable knowledge of Anglican theology and religious practice.
* Formal endorsement from HMPPS Anglican Faith and Belief Adviser confirming eligibility and suitability.
* Diocesan DBS clearance and up-to-date safeguarding training.
Role Eligibility
* An ordained Bishop, Priest or Deacon: be an ordained member of the Anglican Communion (or of churches part of the Porvoo Agreement). Normally in Holy Orders for a minimum of three years. Formal endorsement in the form of the licence of the Diocesan Bishop.
* Reader, Religious Brother/Sister, Church Army Evangelist: be a Reader (Canon E4 Church of England or equivalent in Anglican provinces); religious sister or brother, Church Army Evangelist, or other appropriately qualified or licensed minister in the Anglican tradition, subject to agreement from Anglican Bishop to HM Prisons. Formal endorsement in the form of the licence of the Diocesan Bishop (evidence required before appointment).
