Why this role matters
As a Commercial Finance Manager for the SMB unit, you'll own the financial performance of SMB trading activities across acquisition and base management, partnering with Mobile or Fixed commercial teams to drive profitable growth.
You'll build financial models and analysis to shape propositions, optimise customer lifetime value, and reduce churn. Working with senior stakeholders, you'll challenge and influence trading strategies to ensure offers are fit for purpose and aligned to our SMB growth objectives.
What you'll be doing
* Act as a finance business partner to the Mobile or Fixed Trading teams, driving commercial decision-making.
* Drive short-term trading performance through proposition evaluation, performance analysis, and risk mitigation.
* Shape medium- and long-term customer trading strategy, including opportunity analysis, channel strategy, cross-sell initiatives, and optimisation of customer lifetime value.
* Lead and support forecasting activities, including in-quarter outlooks, new quarterly plans, monthly rolling forecasts, and annual budgeting.
* Identify trading efficiencies to improve acquisition volumes, enrichment, and churn performance.
* Enhance trading value reporting to shift focus from volume to value and enable clear performance impact assessment.
* Ensure commercial offers are fit for purpose, managing margin impacts versus market context and challenging plans to balance customer needs, profitability, and medium-term targets.
* Develop and refine activity evaluation models to improve and standardise decision making within the SMB Commercial Trading team.
* Conduct analysis to understand key business drivers, diagnose issues related to trading performance, and recommend pragmatic solutions.
The skills you'll need
* Qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, CIMA, ACCA) or equivalent experience.
* Strong commercial finance and business partnering experience, ideally in a fast-paced, trading-focused environment.
* Advanced financial modelling skills (particularly in Excel), with the ability to build and manipulate detailed models to support decision making.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex financial insight for senior financial and non-financial stakeholders.
* Proven capability in forecasting, planning and budgeting, including short, medium and long-term outlooks.
* Demonstrated ability to identify issues, get to root causes and develop pragmatic, data-driven solutions in ambiguous, complex environments.
* Experience operating in a large, matrixed organisation, with resilience, patience and the confidence to challenge the status quo appropriately.
