Job Description
Vehicle Test Engineer – Nuneaton, United Kingdom
This role will be responsible for working on vehicle testing project activities on both open‑road and proving‑ground environments. It covers a wide range of vehicle functionalities including ADAS, vehicle durability, field operational testing, electric vehicle chargers, infotainment systems, brakes, vehicle dynamics, connectivity, and automated driving.
Key Responsibilities
* Discuss and confirm technical requirements with customers, including communication throughout the whole test program from project conceptualisation through to delivery.
* Lead complete testing project execution, including project planning and coordination, definition and arrangement of vehicle logistics, test location booking, test route/programme, instrumentation, test sample preparation, test preparation, operation and data acquisition set‑up, test execution according to defined procedures and specifications, test data analysis, validation and reporting.
* Coordinate test preparation tasks such as vehicle inspection and instrumentation with test drivers and technicians.
* Lead test execution and coordinate test drivers and technicians, liaise with test location management.
* Collect, validate, analyse and report test data according to test/customer procedure requirements; support analysis and troubleshooting with IDIADA experts.
* Support business development activities.
* Ensure alignment with corporate procedures in project management, test sample management, test equipment/facilities, quality, OHS, logistics, outsourcing/purchasing.
* Execute and/or supervise hands‑on automotive and mechanical tasks related to chassis, engine, body, bracketry fabrication.
* Flexibly support other related activities as required.
* Occasionally support non‑UK‑based testing, e.g., at IDIADA’s proving ground in Spain.
Qualifications
* University engineering degree, preferably with automotive specialisation.
* Substantial background in automotive technology and vehicle systems, preferably with 3–5 years’ experience.
* Good knowledge of the UK road network and testing infrastructures nationwide.
* Available to travel within the UK and abroad as per project requirements.
* Full manual UK driving licence; test‑driving qualification is an asset.
* Experience with test equipment use (sensors, data acquisition, driving robots, ADAS platforms) and management (calibration) is an asset.
* Proactive and thorough hands‑on engineer, able to work efficiently within a team and independently.
* Relevant experience in vehicle durability, ADAS, brakes or vehicle dynamics testing is an asset.
* Ability to be flexible and responsive to customer needs.
* Dynamic, focused, dedicated, and self‑motivated with a high level of initiative and a problem‑solving mindset.
* Good experience in MS‑Office.
