Aspiring Youth Mentor – Learning Support Assistant Slough

LSA role for a graduate who wants and needs to work in a social, emotional and mental health context, a great role to build towards Youth Work, Youth and Social Justice!

–Location:Slough
–Pay:£101.40 to £105 per day, Monday to Friday, term time only
–Start Date:September 2025 starts – 3rd and 8th September onwards
–Contract:Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30 am – 4:00 pm), Temporary to Permanent

Milk Education is recruiting for aLearning Support Assistant (LSA)to work in a specialist school supportingstudents with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, and challenging behaviour. This is anexcellent opportunityto gain hands-on experience inbehaviour intervention, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed approaches—all of which are essential skills for a future incriminal justice or social care.

Aspiring Youth Mentor – Learning Support Assistant Slough – Education and Training – Aspiring Youth Mentor – Learning Support Assistant Slough :

As anLSA, you will work with students aged4-16who struggle withemotional regulation, social skills, and engagement in learning. Many of these students have facedsignificant trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and difficulties with authority figures. Your role will focus onbuilding trust, supporting emotional well-being, and promoting positive behaviour, all while helping students develop the skills they need to reintegrate into education and society.

You will be working in a specialist primary and secondary school for children who have an EHCP for their Autism, associated conditions, speech and language and communication challenges, traumas they have suffered, anxiety and depression, associated SEN conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
–Building strong, positive relationshipswith students to encourage trust and engagement.
–Supporting pupils in managing their emotionsand developing strategies to regulate behaviour.
–Providing academic and emotional supportin small groups or one-to-one settings.
–Working with students at risk of exclusionto help them stay engaged in education.
–Assisting teachers with lesson delivery, ensuring pupils remain focused and supported.
–Using restorative justice and trauma-informed approachesto manage behaviour and conflict resolution.
–Helping students develop key life skillsthat will support them beyond school.

What We’re Looking For:

–Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Youth & Community Work, or related fields.
–Non-graduates with relevant experience in youth work, mentoring, or social careare also encouraged to apply.
– Astrong interest in working with young peoplewho are at risk of entering the criminal justice system.

-Sincerityis key in this role, what drives you and why do you want to work with some of the most vulnerable children in society
– Acalm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability tode-escalate challenging situations.
–Experience (voluntary or paid)working with vulnerable young people, SEMH, or youth offending (desirable but not essential—full training provided).
– A genuine passion foradvocacy, social justice, and rehabilitation.
