Head of English (Maternity Cover)
Full Time | September 2026 – August 2027 | Charterhouse, Surrey
Charterhouse is seeking an experienced and inspiring Head of English to lead our outstanding department for the 2026–27 academic year, covering a period of maternity leave from September 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide confident, collegiate leadership within a highly successful department at the heart of the School’s academic life. English at Charterhouse is intellectually ambitious and richly diverse: all pupils follow Edexcel IGCSE English Language and CIE IGCSE Literature in the Under School, with strong uptake at OCR A Level English Literature and across the IB Diploma Programme in the Sixth Form.
The successful candidate will combine excellent subject knowledge with highly effective classroom practice and the ability to sustain high academic standards across large year groups. They will ensure continuity and coherence in curriculum delivery, assessment and moderation, while inspiring pupils of all abilities and fostering a genuine love of literature, language and critical thinking.
