How will you make an impact in this role?
As an Operations Engineering Director in our Mission Control organization, you will ensure high levels of product availability for our customers and partners. This role involves delivering all Mission Control functions across Amex enterprise solutions. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading a team of engineers, encouraging issue resolution, minimizing escalations, and ensuring timely communication.
* Managing legacy Emergency Major Incident Management (EMIM) teams during departmental transformation efforts.
* Building strong relationships with Business and Technology partners.
* Evolving Mission Control capabilities by identifying automation and self-healing opportunities.
* Implementing automation solutions to enhance service delivery.
* Partnering with technology onboarding to facilitate knowledge transfer with Operations Engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, or related field. 8+ years of experience in deploying enterprise-grade technology assets.
* Relevant experience in architecture design, systems lifecycle management, and infrastructure planning and operations.
* Leadership experience managing large, multi-functional teams or projects.
* Strong relationship-building skills and understanding of event flow, dependencies, and monitoring tools.
* Experience with observability solutions, application performance monitoring, and AIOps tools.
* Solid knowledge of ITIL processes.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Analytical mindset, curiosity, and a continuous improvement attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
* Deep knowledge of the Amex technology stack.
* Experience in developing roadmaps and staffing plans.
* Experience in training, knowledge transfer, and job shadowing.
* DevOps expertise for high-availability IT infrastructure.
* Proven success in automation development.
* Familiarity with Agile methodologies and CI/CD processes.
* Hands-on experience with application design, development, and automated testing.
* Knowledge of banking and payments technologies is a plus.
