About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Technician in our High-Tech Crimes Division in either Appomattox or Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will travel to court systems throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia that request on-site CCTV services. These services facilitate the testimony of children and juveniles who are witnesses and/or victims of crime by providing CCTV services in a witness room rather than the courtroom during hearings and trials. This position also serves as the subject matter expert providing technical expertise for the repair, installation, operation, maintenance and purchase of CCTV equipment. This position will receive and evaluate request based on Code of Virginia regulations; schedule services; conduct pre-installation site assessments; transport and deliver CCTV equipment; ensure timely installation, set-up, use, monitoring, and removal of all related CCTV equipment including electrical connections, phone set-up and connections, monitors, cameras, and microphones; and serves as an advocate for VSP’s CCTV program, providing information to Commonwealth’s Attorneys, Judges, the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), the Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Services Council (CASC), the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and other stakeholders to promote and increase the use of the CCTV for children and juveniles throughout the Commonwealth. This position requires frequent overnight travel throughout the state.

Minimum Qualifications
•Knowledge of Code of Virginia statutes governing CCTV services and the proper application of the statutes; of travel regulations and reimbursement processing; and of procurement and small purchase charge card regulations required.
•Considerable knowledge of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) audio/visual operating systems.
•The ability to interpret blueprints; test electrical circuits; install electrical outlets; install phone lines; install fiber optic and other types of communication lines troubleshoot connection issues; repair, refurbish and maintain equipment in working order; and of CCTV system components, including microphones, cameras, monitors, telephones, UTC and fiber optic cabling, electrical wiring, system troubleshooting and error resolution.
•Demonstrated ability to adapt to the utilization of future technology utilization; to accurately input case related information into the Law Enforcement Agency Management System (LEAMS); to gather, analyze and compile information and prepare required reports; to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with all stakeholders; to compile, present and communicate information to court affiliated professionals and other stakeholders in a manner that promotes the VSP CCTV services; to demonstrate a high degree of sensitivity to and respect for diversity and cultural issues involved in working with individuals of varying ethnicities and social structures; to maintain strict confidentiality on subjects of extreme sensitivity including sexual abuse, domestic violence, exploitation and other criminal activity; to operate a state-owned fleet vehicle and comply with state vehicle use requirements; and to work independently.
•Must be comfortable and confident working with judges, attorneys, court affiliated professionals, parents and children.
•Must possess a high tolerance for hearing testimonial content of a violent and criminal nature.
•Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 75 lbs.
•Requires frequent overnight travel and work outside of regular business hours.
•Experience with installation, repair and operation of surveillance equipment and/or CCTV systems is required.
•Experience with electrical wiring, cabling, outlets, switches, phone lines, fiber optic and other types of communication lines is required.
•Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
•Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either U.S. citizenship or a lawful resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Additional Considerations
•Bilingual in Spanish is helpful.
•Experience in law enforcement and associated information systems preferred.
•Experience with criminal investigations and the criminal trial process preferred.
