Overview

CLINICAL LEAD DENTIST North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a caring and energetic Clinical Lead Dentist to lead our community dental team in Allerdale and Copeland. You will be leading a friendly, highly skilled workforce, providing specialist dental care to patients referred to the service, including special care dentistry, conscious sedation, and general dental care under anaesthesia. Other essential services include oral health improvement and clinical prevention programmes, involvement in national dental epidemiological surveys and screening programmes, and provision of access to emergency dental care. The service is an accredited trainer for inhalation sedation practice. It is expected that the successful applicant will be based primarily at Cleator Moor Dental Centre, a modern six surgery building with digital radiography, a bariatric surgery and wheelchair tipper.

Job responsibilities

The main role of the post holder is to support the Dental Service Clinical Director in the effective management and leadership of the Special Care and Community Dental Service within the Allerdale and Copeland locality. The post holder will actively support the Clinical Director in developing the strategic direction of the service. The Clinical Lead will be a highly visible, proactive and accessible clinical leader in their locality, acting as a role model and clinical resource and ensuring the sustained delivery of high standards of clinical care and service delivery to clinicians, patients and the public. The Clinical Lead will also undertake clinical duties for up to six sessions per week. An agreed job plan will establish the range and scope of the clinical activity. The role holder may be required to participate in Out of Hours/On call arrangements in line with Trust policy and any local arrangements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

* BDS or equivalent
* NHSE performer list number with no conditions/restrictions
* Current GDC registration

Desirable

* Dental post-graduate qualification particularly sedation/special care dentistry/paediatric dentistry
* Management qualification or appropriate training
* Post graduate educational qualification

Experience

Essential

* Minimum 8 years clinical experience
* Experience of Clinical Audit and evaluation and learning cycle

Desirable

* Educational supervisor/clinical supervisor role
* Policy and planning experience
* Management of staff including recruitment, appraisal & staff development

Skills

Essential

* Ability to plan, set objectives, priorities and review performance
* Sound interpersonal skills - tact and diplomacy
* Ability to work on own initiative but also a good team worker
* Aptitude to learn and develop new skills
* Good organisation and time management skills, including the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
* Effective written or report writing skills.

Desirable

* Coaching and mentoring skills
* Good presentation skills
* Budget management

Knowledge

Essential

* Specific knowledge of the NHS Dental Services and rules and regulations
* Knowledge and understanding of NHS England Commissioning Strategies on Special Care and Paediatric Dentistry
* Relevant decontamination regulations

Desirable

* Local, regional and national oral health strategies
* Knowledge of NHS Salaried Dental Services
